đŸŒ± WE ARE SEEKING A COMMUNITY CAST & PRODUCTION TEAM FOR SEEDFOLKS

The Allegan Food Alliance is moving forward with plans for a community production of Seedfolks — a powerful story about gardens, belonging, resilience, food, and community transformation.

The production is envisioned as part of a larger evening that includes:
đŸ„— a farm-to-table meal
🎭 the play Seedfolks
💬 and a community conversation about food systems, storytelling, and connection in Allegan County.

We are currently seeking:
✹ actors
✹ a director or co-director
✹ stage and production help
✹ community partners and sponsors
✹ volunteers interested in helping shape this collaborative project

Seedfolks features a large and diverse ensemble cast with opportunities for many ages, personalities, and experience levels — including first-time performers.

If you have theater experience, know someone who does, or simply love the idea of community-centered storytelling, we would love to connect with you.

Please message us directly or email:
[email protected]

We are also continuing to gather responses to our “Come to the Table” community food systems survey. We recently selected three survey participants to receive $50 Meijer gift cards and will be getting those out soon. Thank you to everyone who has participated so far and helped us continue building conversations around food, farming, access, and resilience in Allegan County.

🌿 Because in the end, we’re all part of the story.

đŸŒ± We Have Survey Winners! đŸŒ±

Tonight, we drew three names from community members who completed the Allegan Food Alliance's “Come to the Table” food systems survey and included their contact information. Each winner will receive a $50 Meijer gift card as a thank you for helping us gather community voices around food, farming, access, and resilience in Allegan County.

We are still actively gathering responses and would love to hear from more community members across the county — farmers, parents, seniors, restaurant workers, healthcare providers, grocery workers, educators, pantry volunteers, and everyone who eats food. 😊

Your voice matters as we continue building conversations, connections, and future food systems work rooted in community needs and ideas.

Additional drawings may take place as the project continues.

A former general store and post office in Miner Lake, Allegan County.

Places like this once stitched communities together through food, conversation, trust, and everyday care.

This week, we shared a new column and newsletter exploring one-room schoolhouses, corner stores, and what we may have lost—and still might rebuild—as communities became more centralized.

We’re also beginning a project to map Allegan County’s historic food system.

The graphic shows that we’re still missing voices from our grocery stores. The people who sell food directly to the community are a big missing piece.

đŸŒ± We need your voice, Allegan County đŸŒ±

We’ve now heard from over 250 people across the county as part of the Allegan Food Alliance’s Come to the Table survey—and we are so grateful.

But we’re not done yet.

There are still voices missing, and we want to make sure this reflects everyone in our food system.

👉 We especially still need to hear from:

Residents of Fillmore Township and Saugatuck City
Farmers and growers
Health care workers - WIC, dental, hospital, etc.
Restaurant and food service workers
Grocers and market managers
School, hospital, and institutional food staff

If your work or your life connects to food in any way, your experience matters.

👉 Seeds, Stories, and One More Step đŸŒ±

A couple of weeks ago, we gathered for the Seed Fair—sharing seeds, stories, and community. đŸŒ±

Now we’re in the final stretch of our countywide food survey, and we still need more voices.

👉 If you haven’t taken it yet, please take 10 minutes:

Every response helps shape a stronger, more resilient food system here in Allegan County.
