The Jr. Eagle Flag League is a perfect place to start your child in the great sport of Football. Boys and Girls age 5-10 may play in this instructional league. There are 3 divisions within the league; 5/6yr old, 7/8yr old and new for the 2018 season a 9/10yr old league. The 5/6 and 7/8 division play 5 on 5 flag football with the rules based off the NFL Flag Football rules (check out the NFL Youth Flag site at http://www.nflflag.com/). The 9/10 division will be a 7 on 7 league and will introduce more tackle football oriented play. Flag Football is great place for kids to gain confidence, learn how to be part of a team, and build character. While we do keep score and maintain a record for playoffs and host a Super bowl game for each division, the key mission for Flag is learning the game and having fun. We play about 10 inter-league games (9 regular season games which includes a homecoming game and playoff game(s)). If your team makes it, they also get in a Super bowl game.....all at local fields (no travel!!). The time commitment to start is roughly 2-3 practices per week, starting July 28th until the games start (August 18), then the coach will advise if any changes in practices will occur after the first game.
5/6 Flag Division This division concentrates primarily on football rules, positions of the game, offense and defense concept, football fundamentals, team dynamics, sportsmanship, and FUN. You will be surprised at watching your child's team run plays at the first game of the season...and then amazed at how good they are by playoff time. Due to our low numbers last, we were able to host a team, but played all games with the Cary flag league. We will follow the same format if that occurs again.
7/8 Flag Division This division will build on all the fundamentals learned in the 5/6 division and build on those skills. The 7-8 flaggers learn more complex plays and really begin playing more competitively as passing/catching and speed are the primary skills mastered at this level. That also means the players need to learn a new and quicker way to play defense against the pass.
