Any community insights into the land use changes are greatly appreciated. Notice that there are proposed height increases for Masonic Temple land behind the Roberts Street Apartments. There are also height increases at the Giant Shopping Center.

Hidden in a TRCA neighbor’s backyard is this family of foxes!

A few notes for our viewers. Mom is shedding and not ill. Also, do not enter a backyard with a den of foxes. The family will depart forever if disturbed.

Duke Street is also seeing delays this week as the city installs new Smart Technology lights on Duke Street and Quaker Lane.

Delays and brief signal flashes at:

Duke Street & N. Quaker Lane – April 21
Duke Street & S. Quaker Lane – April 23

"While our crews work to improve these intersections, residents and commuters should plan extra travel time or use alternate routes if possible. We appreciate the community’s patience as we work to improve traffic with new technology."

Here's the city website on this upgrade, although the dates of service came to our attention from TES project emails. https://www.alexandriava.gov/transportation-planning/adaptive-signal-control

King Street - Commonwealth intersection also was seeing delays Monday morning as Virginia Railway Express prepares for bridge reconstruction.

Smart signals respond in real time to traffic, reducing congestion and adapting to changing conditions.

Virginia Railway Express is replacing the aging bridges over Commonwealth and King. For several weekends in May both locations will be closed to cars. King Street will be also be closed to bicylists and pedestrians.

Dates are:

May 1-4
May 15-18
May 29-June 1

Exact times of closure move around but please avoid the area.

Here's a time lapse video of the cranes at the Amtrak Station.
