Mount Vernon at Home

Mount Vernon at Home Bringing together Mount Vernon neighbors through a community of exciting programs, connections and support. Welcome to Mount Vernon At Home!

We are a thriving organization that serves local residents aged 55 and over who are choosing to remain in their homes and communities as they age. We are part of a national movement of senior Villages, and proud to have been in service since 2007! Today, our mission of building a community of support, vitality, and enjoyment is more important than ever. We want to get to know you, so please take a look at all that we offer and reach out to us for more information.

VOLUNTEER GREETING CARD WRITER NEEDED - Volunteers are the engine that drives MVAH, and we are always looking for volunteers. Our greatest need is for drivers to get our seniors to appointments and events, but there are many other ways to help. Tell us what you like to do, and we can find a fit. One way you can help in just a few hours a month is to write kind, heartwarming birthday and get-well cards to our members. Many people find themselves to be alone and isolated, and cards mean so much to them. Call or come by our office at the Sherwood Regional Fairfax County Public Library (2501 Sherwood Hall Lane) to for more information about this or any volunteer opportunity. Thank you!!

We are still need of additional volunteers!
Mount Vernon at Home supports seniors who are aging in place and remaining in their homes. We have a continuing need for volunteers to help with transportation to medical appointments, grocery shopping, and other needs. Our increase in the number of members who no longer drive equates to a need for even more volunteers, particularly to handle transportation to medical appointments.
You will feel so good about helping a member of our community thrive while remaining in his/her home! Please visit our website (http://www.mountvernonathome.org/get-involved/) and submit an application, if you are interested and able. You may also contact [email protected].
Thank you!!

A group of Mount Vernon at Home members donned their pink and enjoyed lunch together before watching the Barbie Movie. “It was a great satire. Lots of flashes of wit,” says Franny K. “I liked Barbie a lot … When I was a kid, Barbie had not yet even been imagined,” added Alice O. Others found it a little goofy, but all in all, “the lunch and social aspect were a real day brightener.”
