Let this message be whatever you need it to be.

We talk a lot about speaking, listening and the freedom that comes from using your voice to express your story. Just know that if that ever feels like too much, you still have a place in this community. đź’ś

Love you, Loss Mama.

When I heard her say those words, it was all I could do to keep my mic in my hand.

Heather is a labor & delivery nurse at her hospital where she also serves as a bereavement coordinator. She’s been building this program for several years, with the mindset of always learning more to serve her patients with compassionate care. Listen in to hear the heart behind her work and what she’d like to see more of for bereaved parents.

🎧 Our bonus content continues! Inspired by the participants of our Beyond Words Workshop, this season of focuses on the voices of those who care for loss moms and you can listen to all 10 episodes wherever you listen to podcasts. This week, while attending the conference in New Orleans, we had the chance to meet more nurses, chaplains, and countless others in this field. People who are deeply invested in providing compassionate care for bereaved families and honoring the lives of their children. We are tremendously grateful for every voice that contributed to these important conversations.

Carrie is a chaplain in both the NICU and labor & delivery departments at a hospital in Houston, TX. A word that kept rising to the top of many conversations this week is witness - the act of being present with another person’s pain without trying to fix it, change it, or judge it. Companioning bereaved families by validating their sorrow, by sitting with them in their suffering is a top priority for chaplains like Carrie, in addition to the many, many other ways she supports families behind the scenes. This is just one clip from our conversation, much more to come!

Rose and Mariza are two of those women, working in pediatric palliative care in San Antonio, TX. Their passion for this work is obvious to anyone who meets them and their enthusiasm is infectious. We were honored to hear their perspectives and learn from their dedication & wisdom. This is just one clip from our conversation, much more to come!

Meeting nurses with a collaborative care mindset is so encouraging and inspiring! We had the chance to visit with Brea and Jamie, two L&D nurses from Texas, to chat about what it’s like to care for loss moms and ended our conversation with our hopes for what’s to come at the conference this week. More of our conversation coming soon!

Well son, I hope you’re proud of your mom. I got to talk about you a lot today, maybe more tomorrow, too. Because your life was (is!) precious and your death changed me, I get to have conversations with people I would have no other reason to meet. Because of you, I’m listening, staying curious and seeing what’s next.

Not that I wouldn’t give it all back, just for a moment to have you by my side.

Because I would. I really would.

Getting to say your name will always remind me of why it’s important to help others do the same.

✅ Staying in your pj’s and enjoying a Netflix binge? Sounds good.

âś… Choosing a new plant and picking out just the perfect pot? Love this.

âś… Going to church & brunch? Yes!

âś…Skipping church & brunch? Do it.

âś… Going for a hike or first swim of the year? Solid choice.

âś… Snuggling under your favorite blanket and scrolling on TikTok? Always allowed.

You get to choose. You get to change your mind, too. Leaving room for Mother’s Day as a loss mom to be whatever you need it to be is the only real takeaway you need, Mama.

This day might change from year to year or you might start a new tradition. The thing is, ✨you✨ get to determine what the day holds.

Need help deciding? Pick something from the list. Not ready to choose? You can always take it moment by moment or abandon all the plans.

Looking to support a loss mom in your life on Mother’s Day? The simplest things go a long way:
• Send a card
• Drop off a meal or self care gift
• Make a donation in her honor
• Send a text

Need a head start? Try this: “Thinking of you today. 💜Your heart and mind might be filled with a lot of mixed emotions and I wanted you to know I’m here for you. There’s no need to respond, unless you want to talk. Just wanted you to know you’re loved!”

🎧 What does it ✨really✨ look like to care for a loss mom?

This project required us to think in a different way, dig deeper, take breaks in between recording episodes and challenged us in countless ways we didn’t anticipate…but it might be our favorite one yet.

After interviewing loss moms for the last few years, we went in a different direction, for Season 5 of the , talking with people who walk closely with loss moms in their most vulnerable moments. From doctors and nurses to chaplains, therapists, and ministry leaders, each episode offers a candid look into the role they play and the weight they carry.

This season is inspired by our Beyond Words workshop, where we equip healthcare and ministry professionals to support mothers who have experienced miscarriage, stillbirth or infant loss. Over time, we’ve realized that while there are many conversations about how to care for loss moms, there are far fewer acknowledging the experience of those providing that care.

Our hope is to bring understanding, perspective, and a more human side to these roles. Whether you’re a loss mom, a partner navigating grief, a care provider or someone who cares for women in these moments, this season is for you.

Start at the beginning or choose the one you need to hear most:
• Dr. Jamie Erwin, OBGYN
• Dr. Lisette Saleh, Nurse & Nursing School Professor
• Missy Thomas, Executive Director of
• Barrett Grebing, Pastor
• Dr. Mary Kathryn Nader, Therapist
• Heather LaVigne, Nurse Practitioner
• Jamie Hinton, Midwife
• Callie Caraballo, Sonographer
• Jennifer Hernandez, Director of Care Ministries
• April Snyder, Chaplain Resident

Let us know what you think, what changed for you and who you’ll be sharing an episode with this season!
