Meet tonight's speaker! Dr. Samantha "Sam" Garza got her Astronomy PhD at the University of Washington and is now an Education Specialist at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory. She has previously studied the inner arms of the Milky Way, the relationship between how fast stars are forming and annoying dust particles, and (her favorite galaxy) the Whirlpool Galaxy. For her dissertation work, she researched the atmospheres of galaxies to further our understanding of how galaxies evolve over time. She loves serving the public through outreach and has had so much fun traveling the state to work with students. In her free time she enjoys crafting, playing volleyball, hiking, and baking for her friends.

Meet tonight's speaker! Sally Seidel received her Ph.D. in experimental particle physics from the University of Michigan on a search for nucleon decay using the IMB water Cherenkov detector. Seidel joined the University of New Mexico faculty in 1991 and since 1995 she has been a member of the ATLAS experiment at the LHC where her contributions include development of new particle tracking technologies and the search for New Physics with heavy quark signatures. In 2014 her team discovered the new particle called the Bc(2S)!

Meet tonight's speaker! Dom (he/him) is a sixth year PhD student with a primary research focus in transiting circumbinary planets (CBPs) and a NASA FINESST Future Investigator. CBPs are exoplanets orbiting tight binary stellar systems, and they are an exciting lens to study the formation of both tight binary systems and exoplanets. His PhD dissertation project is to find an occurrence rate for this population of planets with the TESS mission! He is also an active member of his union the United Graduate Workers of UNM, is a cat dad and he enjoys bowling and running when he has the time.
