COLD WATER RUNS DEEP

This summer, three members of the San Luis Valley Trout Unlimited community will take on Running Rivers Flyathlon events across Colorado and New Mexico, raising money for native trout and coldwater conservation.

For those unfamiliar, Flyathlon combines trail running, fly fishing, and fundraising to support native trout conservation and the cold, clean water these fish depend on.

Two of these events directly support Rio Grande cutthroat trout conservation, while all three help further the mission of protecting and restoring coldwater fisheries through the work of Running Rivers.

SLV TU is proud to support these racers and the conservation efforts they represent.

Throughout the summer we'll be sharing updates from the trails, rivers, and races as these three take on hundreds of miles of training, race day challenges, and conservation fundraising.

You can help too. Every donation—large or small—goes directly toward conservation efforts that protect native trout and the waters they call home. If you'd like to support one of our racers, their fundraising links can be found below.

Think you've got what it takes to tie under pressure?

On Wednesday, August 5, Trout on Tap transforms into the first-ever:

FLY CHOPPED: VALLEY TIE-OFF

Three rounds.

Mystery materials.

One champion.

Competitors will battle through a fishable nymph challenge, a mystery material round, and the dreaded "OH NO" Champions Round as they compete for bragging rights, prizes, and the title of 2026 Fly Chopped Champion.

Trout on Tap is getting a little wild this summer.

On Wednesday, August 5, San Luis Valley Trout Unlimited is bringing the first-ever:

FLY CHOPPED: VALLEY TIE-OFF

to The Colorado Farm Brewery.

10 tyers will battle through three timed rounds using standard and mystery materials while the crowd watches the chaos unfold.

🔥 Fishable Nymph Challenge
🔥 Mystery Material Round
🔥 “OH NO” Champions Round

Bring your vise, tools, and tying skills.
We’ll provide the hooks, beads, materials, mystery items, and black thread.
