CUREPE DESERVES BETTER: HOW MUCH LONGER MUST RESIDENTS WAIT?
For months, residents of Curepe have been consistently reporting longstanding issues affecting the safety, cleanliness, and overall condition of the community.
Residents have submitted reports, shared photographs, provided addresses, documented concerns, followed up repeatedly, and continued engaging in good faith — all in the hope that meaningful action would be taken.
To be fair, some limited work and small improvements have been observed, and we acknowledge those efforts.
However, many of the major concerns affecting residents remain unresolved.
The reality is this:
🚮 Garbage accumulation and illegal dumping continue to affect several areas — at times feeling as though waste collection now works on a “surprise us” schedule.
🌧️ Severely clogged drains remain a major concern, with one heavy rainfall often making residents fear for flooding.
🌱 Overgrown bush and grass continue creating health, safety, and visibility concerns in several locations.
🚗 Derelict vehicles have occupied public spaces for so long that some residents may soon start recognizing them as permanent landmarks.
💧 Ongoing WASA leaks continue wasting water while contributing to road deterioration.
💡 Poor or non-functioning street lighting affects both visibility and public safety, leaving many areas darker than they should be.
🕳️ Deteriorating roads and potholes continue damaging vehicles and creating hazards for drivers and pedestrians alike.
🏚️ Broken pavements and damaged culverts make simple movement unnecessarily difficult and unsafe.
And before anyone asks:
**Yes — these matters have been reported. Repeatedly.**
Residents have done their part by:
✔️ Providing photographic evidence
✔️ Sharing exact locations and addresses
✔️ Submitting complaints and formal reports
✔️ Following up consistently
✔️ Offering practical recommendations where possible
In fact, residents compiled organized reports with supporting images and documented concerns to make the process easier and more efficient.
Because this has never been about complaining for the sake of complaining.
This is about wanting better for Curepe.
What residents are asking for is not extraordinary.
We are asking for basic maintenance and infrastructure that directly affect daily life, public safety, and community well-being:
• Proper drain maintenance
• Consistent waste management
• Road and pavement repairs
• Functional street lighting
• Attention to leaks and deteriorating infrastructure
• A clear and transparent timeline for unresolved works
Residents are becoming increasingly frustrated — not because problems were never reported, but because they have been reported repeatedly with limited visible progress.
At this point, Curepe does not need more promises, consultations, delays, or “we are looking into it.”
Curepe needs action.
We are not asking for luxury.
We are asking for:
✔️ Safe roads
✔️ Clean surroundings
✔️ Working drains
✔️ Functional lighting
✔️ Proper infrastructure
✔️ Visible progress
Like every other community, Curepe deserves safe, functional, and properly maintained surroundings.
We respectfully urge the relevant authorities to prioritize these longstanding concerns and provide residents with measurable, visible action.
Because right now, many residents are left asking a simple question:
When will Curepe finally be prioritized?
