About a week ago, the SHATA team had the opportunity to visit the Jodensavanne Archaeological Site during its Volunteer Week.

Together with SHATA Chairman Egon von Foidl, we met with Jenna Wijngaarde, Chair of the Jodensavanne Foundation, and had the chance to see firsthand the work being done by volunteers to preserve and protect this important part of Suriname’s history.

As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Jodensavanne is not only an important part of our heritage, but also an important part of Suriname’s tourism story. Visits like these help us better understand how the tourism and hospitality sector can support its preservation, visibility and continued development.

Thank you to Jenna and the entire Jodensavanne team for welcoming SHATA and for the work you continue to do.

What an evening! 🍻✨ SHATA Connect Vol 4 at Surinaamse Brouwerij brought together an incredible mix of people from across Suriname’s tourism, hospitality, business, diplomatic and public sectors. Great conversations, new connections, familiar faces and plenty of energy throughout the evening. This is exactly what SHATA Connect is about — creating the space for people and industries to meet, connect and build relationships. A big thank you to the entire Surinaamse Brouwerij team for hosting us and for the tremendous amount of thought, planning and work that went into the evening. And, of course, thank you to everyone who joined us and continues to make SHATA Connect what it is.

Until the next SHATA Connect! 🎥🍻 Surinaamse Brouwerij

Learning Together. Growing Together. Building Partnerships.

Today, the SHATA team had the privilege of visiting the Fortescue Green Pioneer, the world's first ocean-going dual-fueled ammonia-powered vessel, during its visit to Suriname. Our journey began at the Marriott, where we gathered as one SHATA family. From there, we were picked up by our ground transportation partner and fellow SHATA member, Garage D.A. Ashruf, a family-owned Surinamese company with deep roots in the tourism sector, offering airport transfers, car rentals, and shuttle services. Shaeif took the lead in making sure we arrived at the port safely and on time, and from there our journey began. Onboard, the tour offered valuable insight into innovation, sustainability, and the future of green maritime technology.

As Suriname continues to position itself as a leader in tourism, energy, and investment, opportunities like these deepen our understanding of the industries shaping our country's future.

Beyond the visit itself, it was a wonderful chance to come together as a team, learning together, sharing ideas, strengthening relationships, and continuing to grow as an organization.

A special thank you to Fortescue for the warm welcome, the informative tour, and the opportunity to experience this remarkable vessel firsthand. Our appreciation also goes to Garage D.A. Ashruf for getting us there smoothly and on schedule.

We look forward to continued collaboration and to building stronger connections across the tourism, maritime, and energy sectors.
