PMWDO Conducts Four-Day Training for 34 Community Conversation Facilitators in Gardo karkar region

PMWDO conducted a four-day training for 34 Community Conversation Facilitators in Gardo, Karkaar Region, under the SOM Project, which aims to eliminate Child, Early and Forced Marriage (CEFM) and all forms of Female Ge***al Mutilation (FGM) with support from Save the Children in Somalia

The training focused on rolling out the Community Conversation Approach, equipping facilitators with the knowledge and skills to engage communities, challenge harmful social norms, raise awareness, and promote positive behavioural change.

Together, we can build safer communities and protect the rights, dignity, and future of women and girls.

PMWDO and Wasaaradda Caafimaadka Puntland MARK WORLD HANDWASHING DAY

Garowe, 15 October 2026 — PMWDO and the Puntland Ministry of Health marked World Handwashing Day in Garowe, with support from UNICEF.

The event highlighted the importance of regular handwashing with soap and clean water in preventing infectious diseases, promoting hygiene, and protecting public health, particularly among children.

PMWDO emphasizes the importance of community awareness and promoting good handwashing practices to build healthier communities.

PMWDO conducted a Baseline Validation Meeting for the ASWA III Project, which is being implemented in Burtinle and Dangorayo districts.

The meeting brought together representatives from the WASH Cluster, UNICEF, Ministry of Health (MoH), Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Education, NGOs, INGOs, district mayors and councils, community representatives, district Education Focal Points, and district Health Focal Points.

During the meeting, PMWDO presented the findings of the ASWA III Project Baseline Study. Participants shared valuable feedback, recommendations, and inputs to validate the findings and strengthen the quality of the baseline data.

The meeting provided an important platform for stakeholder engagement, coordination, and joint planning to support the effective implementation of ASWA III activities in Burtinle and Dangorayo.

Under the GFFO-funded ToGETHER 2.0 Programme, PMWDO facilitated a five-day capacity-strengthening workshop in Bosaso (Sept 20–25, 2026) for Somalia Localization Consortium partners (CPD, SOLO, AADSOM, SYPD) alongside DKH Somalia CPU staff.

The training focused on three main pillars: Climate Change Adaptation, Innovation for Community Development, and Inclusion & Gender-Sensitive Humanitarian Programming.

Through presentations, case studies, and peer learning, participants developed practical action points to design and implement climate-resilient, innovative, and gender-inclusive programs across Somalia.

PMWDO, with funding support from UNICEF, conducted parental workshops aimed at supporting the Back-to-School campaign and the re-enrolment of out-of-school children, particularly children affected by drought and displacement, in JRP-supported schools across Galkacyo and Galdogob Districts.

The workshops focused on increasing parents’ awareness of the importance of education and encouraging them to support their children’s enrolment, regular attendance, and retention in school. Discussions also highlighted the challenges faced by drought- and displacement-affected children in accessing education and explored practical ways that parents, schools, and communities can work together to address these barriers.
A total of 200 parents participated in the workshops across Galkacyo and Galdogob Districts. The sessions provided a platform for parents to discuss their roles in supporting children’s education and to strengthen community commitment towards ensuring that out-of-school children return to learning.

The activity contributed to ongoing efforts to increase enrolment, reduce school dropout, and promote equitable access to education for vulnerable children, particularly those affected by drought and displacement. The workshops also strengthened collaboration among parents, schools, and communities in support of the JRP education response.

Distribution of Locally Produced School Bags.

Under the Joint Resilience Programme (JRP), PMWDO distributed 2000 locally produced school bags to 50 schools in Galkacyo and Galdogob Districts.

The activity was implemented with funding support from UNICEF, with the aim of strengthening access to education and supporting vulnerable school-aged children.
The school bags were locally produced, contributing to local livelihoods while providing essential educational materials to students in the targeted schools. The distribution was carried out in coordination with relevant education authorities and school representatives to ensure transparent and equitable allocation.

This intervention is expected to support children’s regular participation women-led schools , minority and margialised schools, prone flood Elnino anticipated schools , in education by reducing some of the barriers associated with a lack of basic learning materials. It also demonstrates the JRP’s commitment to linking humanitarian assistance with local production and community resilience.
