PROJECT TITLE: INSPIRE – Inspiring Nature Stewards through Planting Indigenous Trees, Restoration and Environmental Education

FUNDED BY: EQUIEARTH FOUNDATION SIERRA LEONE

INSPIRE means:
I – Inspiring
N – Nature
S – Stewards
P – Planting
I – Indigenous Trees
R – Restoration
E – Environmental Education

Equiearth Foundation Sierra Leone is pleased to announce the launch of the INSPIRE Project, a school-based environmental initiative designed to engage primary school pupils in tree planting, environmental education, and practical environmental stewardship.

This project is a scale-up of our previous Climate Change Education for Primary Schools in Makeni, Bombali District, through which we established 10 Climate Change Education School Clubs in primary schools.

However, building on the achievements and lessons learned from the previous project, we are now scaling up the initiative to reach more schools, pupils, teachers, and communities. The scale-up will strengthen climate change education, environmental awareness, tree planting, and practical climate action among young learners.

Moreover, through the expanded programme, participating schools will establish and strengthen climate and environmental clubs or Gardens; engage pupils in tree planting and environmental protection activities, and promote practical solutions for building a healthier, greener, and more climate-resilient future.

COMMENCE DATE: 19 October 2026

LOCATION: Primary Schools, Makeni, Bombali District, Sierra Leone

BENEFICIARIES: Primary school pupils, teachers, and school communities

TARGETED SCHOOLS: Five Primary schools in Makeni, Bombali District, Sierra Leone, West Africa.

GENDER STATUS: 70% Girls and 30% Boys.

FOCUS: Indigenous Tree Planting; Environmental Education; Restoration; and Youth Stewardship

In all, through INSPIRE Project, we aim to nurture a generation of young environmental stewards who will plant, protect, and care for nature;

We commend the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, under the leadership of Hon. Jiwoh Emmanuel Abdulai, for representing Sierra Leone at the 2026 United Nations General Assembly and advancing our country’s priorities on climate action, nature, sustainable development, resilience and a just transition.

The Minister’s engagements on Sea Level Rise, Climate Action and Just Transition, Leaders for Nature, Defending 1.5°C, the COP31 Action Agenda and the New Collective Quantified Goal on Climate Finance (NCQG) are particularly important for vulnerable countries like Sierra Leone.

However, as Equiearth Foundation Sierra Leone, we FIRMLY believe these priorities must also be anchored in CLIMATE JUSTICE. Global climate commitments must translate into EQUITABLE access to climate finance, technology, capacity-building and practical support for communities that are most vulnerable to climate impacts.

That said, we, Equiearth Foundation, therefore, welcome Sierra Leone’s continued voice in global climate diplomacy and encourage stronger connections between international commitments and community-level action, ensuring that young people, women, farmers and vulnerable communities are meaningfully included.

From New York to Antalya, let Sierra Leone continue to champion climate action that is not only AMBITIOUS, but also FAIR, INCLUSIVE and JUST.

Equiearth Foundation Sierra Leone; we EDUCATE. PROTECT. EMPOWER.

Well done Mr. Minister!!
