REPORT ON PRE-ENGAGEMENT FOR THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL CHILD 2026

Today, 8th October 2026. The Children's Forum Network (CFN) Kenema District commenced its pre-engagement activities in preparation for the celebration of the International Day of the Girl Child, observed annually on 11th October.

As part of the campaign, CFN Kenema District engaged children at Km DEC Primary School in Borbu Community to raise awareness about the importance of protecting girls and ensuring that they have the opportunity to grow, learn and build a better future. During the engagement, the children were introduced to the International Day of the Girl Child and this year's theme, "The girl I am, the change I lead and our local theme focus on "End child marriage and invest in girls' future" the session provided an opportunity for the children to learn about the importance of protecting children from child marriage and other forms of abuse, taking care of their bodies and maintaining good personal hygiene.

To conclude, the engagement also encouraged the children to actively participate in the celebration of the International Day of the Girl Child and to share the key messages with their peers, families and communities.

REPORT ON RADIO DISCUSSION PROGRAM ON CHILD MARRIAGE

On the 3rd and 4th October 2026, the Children's Forum Network Kenema hosted a radio discussion program to discuss child marriage ahead of the International Day of the Girl.

During the program, our panelists were asked a series of questions about the topic. Some of the questions asked were:
1. What is child marriage?
2. What are the causes of child marriage?
3. What are the after-effects / effects of child marriage on a girl child?
4. What are the possible solutions to end child marriage?

Our panelists responded to all the questions clearly, explaining that poverty, teenage pregnancy, school dropout, and traditional practices are major causes, and that the effects include health risks, school dropout, and gender inequality. They also suggested solutions such as girl child education, enforcement of the Child Rights Act, parental care, and community sensitization.

Listeners also called in and asked a series of questions, and their questions were well responded to by the panelists.

At the end of the program, we were applauded by the listeners and we were encouraged to keep going with our sensitization and advocacy to end child marriage in Kenema and beyond.

It was a successful and impactful program. Together let's end child marriage and invest in their future.

CHILDREN’S FORUM NETWORK KENEMA DISTRICT

Support to Children in Borbu Community with Learning Materials.

Yesterday, 5th September 2026. The Children's Forum Network Kenema District officially commenced its Back to school Campaign in Borbu Community by distributing essential learning materials to school going children and also those who were not going to school but have the intention to start their education this year.

The activity was carried out through our community Led Approach, where community members identified education as one of their key priorities. In response to this identified need, CFN-Kenema mobilized and distributed basic learning materials to support children from Primary Class 1 through Senior Secondary School (SSS 3). The Child Rights Act, 2007, provides for the protection and promotion of children’s rights, including their right to education, supporting children with basic learning materials is therefore an important step toward creating an enabling environment where every child can access education, participate effectively in learning and reach their full potential.

The learning materials distributed includes exercise books, pens, pencils, rulers, erasers and sharpeners. These materials were provided to children across the community with the aim of helping them begin the new academic year with some of the basic resources they need for their education, recognizing that promoting children’s education requires collective responsibility and partnership, CFN-Kenema also invited the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education SL Kenema District, to witness and participate in the distribution. The Ministry responded positively by sending a representative to join the activity.

The participation of the Ministry was meaningful to us because we believe that supporting children’s education requires collaboration among communities, government institutions, civil society organizations, parents, teachers and other stakeholders. Through such partnerships, we can contribute to creating a supportive environment where children are encouraged to learn, grow and thrive.

**Children's Forum Network (CFN) – Kenema District Radio Discussion on Child Marriage**

On **5th July 2026**, the **Children's Forum Network (CFN) Kenema District** successfully conducted another impactful radio discussion on **Nyapui Radio 106.1 FM**, focusing on the important issue of **Child Marriage**.

The discussion featured **four panelists** and **one moderator**, who began the program by introducing themselves before engaging listeners on the topic.

During the discussion, the panelists explained that **a child is any girl or boy below the age of 18**, and that **marriage is a union between consenting adults who are legally mature**. They emphasized that **child marriage is a violation of children's rights** and has serious consequences for the well-being and future of young people.

Listeners actively participated by asking why child marriage is harmful. In response, the panelists highlighted several negative effects of child marriage, such as

1.Teenage pregnancy, school dropout

2.loss opportunities and dreams

3.Health risks.

The panelists also discussed some of the major causes of child marriage, such as:
• Poverty
• Peer pressure and negative influence
• Harmful traditional practices
• Lack of awareness and education

To address these challenges, they encouraged communities to prioritize education, strengthen child protection, raise awareness, and support families in protecting children from early marriage.

The program concluded with listeners sharing valuable recommendations and expressing their commitment to working together to end child marriage in their communities.

RADIO DISCUSSION ON HEALTHY MASCULINITY MARKS FATHER'S DAY CELEBRATION**

On 21st June 2026, the Children's Forum Network (CFN) Kenema District participated in a radio discussion at Nyapui Radio 106.1 FM to commemorate Father's Day. The discussion focused on the important topic of **Healthy Masculinity**.

The program featured three panelists and one moderator who engaged listeners in a meaningful conversation about the wellbeing of men and boys in society and the need to challenge harmful social norms that negatively affect their development and relationships.

During the discussion, the panelists defined healthy masculinity as the promotion of positive attitudes, behaviors, and wellbeing among men and boys while discouraging harmful social expectations and stereotypes.

The panelists also highlighted some of the negative effects of harmful social norms, including:
# Gender inequality
# Violence and aggression
# Poor mental health among men and boys
# Discrimination and social exclusion
# opportunities for emotional expression

Following a short music break, listeners actively participated through phone calls and text messages, making the discussion interactive and insightful. Community members shared their views, experiences, and concerns while asking questions related to healthy masculinity and the role of fathers and male role models in society.

In response, the panelists provided some answers to the questions with good recommendations for the wellbeing of men and boys in our society.
Before this time and up to date now, the mindset of people in the society is highly polluted with negative thoughts based on social norms, it has been a tradition,for people in our society that no matter what a man or a boy will not cry for anything

In our communities today men and boys are expected to be sacrificing for their families and the communities which they found themselves,while they refuse to know that men and boys are also to be cared for as well, not only women and girls should be crying for Gender Equality men and boys also have emotional feelings and physical feelings.

ADVOCATING FOR CHILDREN THROUGH THE AIRWAVES

In the lead-up to the Day of the African Child 2026, the Children's Forum Network (CFN) Kenema actively participated in a series of radio discussions to raise awareness about the significance of June 16th.

During these engagements, CFN members discussed the historical background of the Day of the African Child and highlighted this year's theme:

“Ensuring Universal Access to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene for All African Children."

The discussions emphasized the importance of safe drinking water, proper sanitation facilities, and good hygiene practices in promoting children's health, education, and overall well-being.

Through these radio programs, CFN Kenema amplified children's voices and called on communities, stakeholders, and duty bearers to work together to ensure that every child has access to clean water and a healthy environment.

🌍🎉 DAY OF THE AFRICAN CHILD 2026 CELEBRATION 🎉🌍

THEME:Ensuring universal access to water sanitation and hygiene for every child in Africa

Today, the Children's Forum Network (CFN) Kenema proudly joined children and community members in Burbu Community to commemorate the Day of the African Child 2026.

The celebration brought together over 70 children and community members from both Burbu and the neighboring Diama Community in a spirit of unity, learning, and child participation. As a child-led advocacy organization committed to promoting the rights, dignity, and well-being of children, CFN Kenema provided both technical and financial support to ensure the success of this meaningful event.

The activity focused on this year's Day of the African Child theme and featured a variety of educational and interactive activities, including:

📚 Spelling Bee Competition
🎤 Poem Recitation
🔤 ABC Rhyming Competition
🗣️ Children's Panel Discussion on the 2026 Theme

These activities not only provided children with an opportunity to showcase their talents but also helped strengthen their academic performance, confidence, leadership, and public speaking skills.

One of the highlights of the event was the strong collaboration and unity demonstrated between the Burbu and Diama Communities, proving that when communities work together, children thrive.

At the end of the celebration, certificates were awarded to all participants, as well as to the 1st and 2nd place winners of the Spelling Bee Competition and children who actively participated in the panel discussion.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the children, parents, community leaders, volunteers, and all stakeholders who contributed to the success of this event.

Together, we continue to create a safer, more inclusive, and empowering environment where every child can learn, grow, and reach their full potential.

CHILDREN’S FORUM NETWORK KENEMA DISTRICT

Today the 10TH of June 2026, the children’s forum network had a wellbeing visit at Borbu community.
The wellbeing visitation was based on knowing how the community people are doing, the health of the children and everyone in the community an also to know some of the new developments that have been happening in the community after capacitating them all this while on how to manage and develop their wellbeing and the community on their own.
So far so good the community people appreciate our visit and they highlighted some of the good work that have been going on in the community,they make mention of the Community management committee (CMC) that it has been helpful towards the development in the community.
In the CMC they have road construction committee,Agriculture Committee, and the child protection committee.all these committees are working greatly to develop their community
They even make mention of their plans for this year.and the child protection committee has a plan to celebrate the day of the Africa child with the children in the community and other communities around them and everything involved in the activity is going to be done themselves and everybody is to be included in the activity.
Overall, the wellbeing visitation shows that forum is really creating an impact in the community, it comes to our understanding that we really making a change and the commitment of community is showing that,they clearly understand community lead approaches and the CMC for the development of their community.

The children’s Forum Network had the pleasure of hosting Remijus Iweobi from the Global Funds for Children.
The purpose of his visit was to strengthen the administrative and the operational structure of the forum. The training lasted for two days within which we learnt a lot about the approach that we should take in implementing our activities in order for us to have a sustainable impact.
Furthermore, the training enhanced us to have a very formidable administrative structure that clearly directs the operational structure and the flow of work.
Suggestions where made by various executives about some of the aspects of work that seems to be challenging, and they were amicably addressed to the best of our understanding.
Overall, the training was an eye opener that gave all the executives the opportunity to clearly understand their roles and responsibilities,their by enhancing an easy flow of work for the general growth of the organization.

In today’s edition of our weekly radio discussion program, the children’s Forum Network had the pleasure of engaging the Voice Of The East (VOTE) FM.
We took the time to inform our listeners on the background of the organization, its aims and objectives and some of the challenges that the forum is facing.
Furthermore the studio panelists vividly highlighted that the Forum had just conducted an election which enabled the forum to Change leadership as tradition demands. The children took the time to explain about the transition period of the forum there by highlighting the aim of our leadership for the years to follow.
Several calls and text messages came in, all congratulating us for our hard work and dedication and encouraged us to always keep the fire burning.
Some listeners regarded the Forum as the center within which the light that will illuminate the future shall be ignited.
