What does it look like for rural communities to have ownership over the project leading, design, and implementation?

It looks like a Community Action Group (CAG)!

CAG volunteers are the engine of change in their villages. From sharing lessons learned to solving tough challenges, the CAG brings community members and government partners together to lead as one. We’re so inspired by their dedication to building a stronger, more united future!

Health, Dignity, and the Power of Community 🤝

Clean water and sturdy latrines are just the beginning. The real magic happens when communities take ownership of their health!

In partner communities like Nikabu and Sawula, hygiene promotion is transforming daily life. By instituting their own bylaws and participating in our Community Action (ACT) hygiene training, residents are leading the charge in preventing waterborne diseases and restoring community dignity.

"This training is a testament to the continued benefits we have gained over the past, and how we continue to complement the effort of the government in ensuring that our health and dignity are restored."
— Sengbeh Bockarie, Sectional Health Overseer

We are so inspired by this collective commitment to a healthier, more resilient future. Together, we’re doing more than just building infrastructure—we’re sustaining wellness.

In Manonkoh, our Nurturing Opportunities for Women (NOW) program family sessions are improving relationships and strengthening families! When men and women share the joys and burdens of the household, domestic mistreatment decreases, and love grows.

We’re proud to see the men of Manonkoh, Bombali District, leading the way in advancing healthy masculinity, which creates a stronger, more stable future for the next generation.

Energy poverty shouldn’t be a barrier to health, agriculture, technology, or any other development needs. With only 5-6% energy access in rural Sierra Leone, the challenge is significant.

In communities where our Community Action program is run, mini-grid solar panels can serve as an anchor- bringing electricity to health centers, rice milling stores, and other public facilities. By pairing this infrastructure with technical training, communities are fostering long-term energy sustainability and local expertise.

The women in Kono District are sowing seeds for a brighter future 🌱🌾

This year, 355 women in Kono have started NOW: Agribusiness, which equips women farmers with the skills and techniques to boost their harvests. Together, we’re reducing hunger, ending the reliance on imports, and building financial independence in rural Sierra Leone.

We are thrilled to share preliminary findings from our recent survey of the NOW: Agribusiness program!

An initial supply of 8 bushels of seed for 75 women across Gandohun, Nyandehun Junction, and Kortima has yielded a remarkable 90 bushels of rice! This significant increase in agricultural productivity from NOW: Agribusiness is a clear indicator of growing income stability.

Congratulations to the hardworking participants for taking bold steps toward ending household food insecurity!

At One Village Partners, we believe the best development experts are the community members themselves.

We are proud to announce our membership in the Full Spectrum Evidence and Learning Initiative (FSELI)—a collaboration of NGOs and researchers dedicated to a systemic shift in Holistic Community-Led Development (HCLD).

Through a multi-year, mixed-methods evaluation, we are helping to provide the evidence needed to redefine global development standards. We’re honored to stand alongside the following organizations to advocate for a more participatory, equitable future: Tostan, Institute of Development Studies and IDinsight.

Recently, two of our OVP team members—Aminata Kamara (our Country Director) and Mohamed Rogers (our Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning Manager)—participated in a gathering in Senegal as part of our contributions to the initiative.

Women Leading the Way: Meet Fatu Blake

We are proud to introduce Fatu Blake, the Chairlady of the Nurturing Opportunity for Women (NOW) program in her community of Gouma.

Fatu is a leader and a catalyst for change in Gouma. Recently featured at our March 2026 Town Hall, she shows how vital it is for rural women to be involved in community development.
