I was delighted to host my colleagues from the Western Area Rural District Students' Union (WARDSU) at Central University. As the WARDSU Central University Chapter, successfully organized a symposium under the theme: “Safe Universities Campaign on Gender-Based Violence.” The event was held on Thursday, 19 February 2026 at Garden Hall, Central University Campus, Mile 91, Tonkolili District, Sierra Leone.

The symposium brought together students, lecturers, feminist leaders, and members of the university administration, creating a dynamic and inclusive platform for dialogue and engagement. The primary objective was to raise awareness, encourage open discussion, and promote collective responsibility toward building a safe, inclusive, and respectful academic environment, free from all forms of gender-based violence.

During the event, I had the honor of moderating a panel discussion that featured a student leader, a feminist leader, a lecturer, and an advocate. Together, we examined critical issues surrounding gender-based violence in tertiary institutions, highlighting practical solutions, reporting mechanisms, and legal frameworks in Sierra Leone.

The engagement was highly impactful, as students were well-informed about reporting pathways, gender laws, and the importance of collective action. The interactive sessions further strengthened participants’ understanding and commitment to fostering safer learning spaces.

I extend my profound gratitude to the Administration of Central University for their unwavering support, cooperation, and for providing a conducive environment that ensured the smooth and successful ex*****on of the symposium.

Together, we continue to build safer universities and empower students to stand firmly against all forms of gender-based violence.

Special appreciation goes to the Western Area Rural District Students’ Union, Central University Chapter, for their dedication and commitment in making this program impactful and successful.

...As I reflect on my set-goals for 2025 - it was a wonderful experience studying another program (Mass Communication) at Central University.

As a Level 200 student, after setting my SMART Goals for 2025, I am thrilled to share that by actively engaged in academic & personal development; I have acquired skills as:

Student Investigative Journalist | Videographer | Script Writer | Voice-over Artist | Documentary Director | Columnist | News Editor | Prolific Writer | Content Creator | Storyteller | Fact-checker | Presenter | Reporter | Producer | Advertiser | Media Advocate | Camera Operator | Social Media Manager | CEO Smart Media Press & TV.

I owe sincere thanks to Central University for equipping us with functional TV and Radio stations, which blend 30% theory and 70% practical learning. This hands-on approach enables students in the Mass Communication Department to excel remarkably.

I didn't only set goals for myself, but I have also set ambitions for my department and our university - by providing a platform (Smart Media Press) for students to showcase their skills in journalistic writing, reporting, broadcasting, public speaking, leadership and digital media journalism. Today, the majority of students are proficient in writing news stories, editing videos, reporting and even presenting the news.

Before this, I acquired some of these skills by self-taught, driven by a determination to learn and align myself with the skills that the world demands. All of this was made possible by Central University's excellent facilities, including 24/7 electricity, reliable internet connectivity, e-library, and a conducive learning environment.

Looking ahead, I have already set my SMART goals for 2026, along with SMART objectives. I am eager to learn, unlearn, and relearn. I look forward to embracing new opportunities and challenges as the future unfolds.

As I bid farewell to 2025, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to Central University, the Department of Mass Communication, as well as dedicated lecturers and administrative staff who have supported my initiative on campus.

In 2026, Smart Media Press will continue to play a positive role in student development through our campus journalism programs and initiatives. Despite the challenges of media poverty and censorship, we will continue to strive for excellence.

I extend a special thank you to the incredible individuals who continually inspire and challenge me to surpass my limits: Dr. Rebecca M Kposowa-Taylor, Dr. Francis Smart, Mr. Amin Kef (Ranger Media), & Mr. Umaru Fofana. Your belief in my potential has been invaluable.

To my followers, thank you for motivating me with your likes, comments and critics for the betterment of our beloved nation - Sierra Leone. May we all live to celebrate 2026 with sound health.

Happy New Year to each and every one of you! 🙌🏾

Season regards,
Ibrahim John Sesay (Popay)🍎

“Mastering yourself is the first step to mastering anything. When you take control of your thoughts, emotions, and actions, you unlock the power to navigate life with purpose and resilience. Discipline replaces doubt, focus replaces distraction, and inner strength becomes your foundation. Every goal, every challenge, every dream depends on the command you have over yourself. Start within, for true power begins in the mind and heart. Once you master yourself, the world no longer limits you, every opportunity, every achievement, every success becomes possible. Your greatest triumph starts with you.”

You are your greatest investment—pour time, love, and patience into yourself. Let peace be your top priority and shape your world around it. Wear peace like a badge of honor. Embrace your own kind of beauty, and lay negativity to rest. Rise above toxic energy. Be joyful, be intentional, and guard your space wisely. Help others where you can, but never lose yourself in the process. You are not here to merely exist—you are here to shine. Always remember: you matter, your dreams matter, and your well-being matters. Don’t ever forget that.
