What happens when hundreds of internationals come together in one room? Stories are shared. Connections are made. New opportunities begin. ✨

HIC was honoured to be invited to participate in the first International Citizen Day Lund, an inspiring event organised by International Citizen Hub Lund and the City of Lund as part of the EU Interreg project Cross-border Talent Bridge. As the only representative from Helsingborg, we were proud to contribute to this regional gathering, bringing together people from a wide range of backgrounds, industries, and experiences across Skåne and the Greater Copenhagen region. 🇩🇰🇸🇪

Throughout the day, we met inspiring individuals who openly shared their journeys of building a life and career in Sweden. Many spoke about both the opportunities and challenges they have encountered, while also expressing a strong desire to connect with others, learn, and explore new possibilities.

The event created a welcoming space where cultures met, experiences were exchanged, and meaningful conversations took place. We also had the opportunity to connect with fellow organisations, discuss our respective missions, exchange ideas, and, of course, have a very serious conversation about surviving the Swedish winter! 😉

We left feeling inspired, motivated, and grateful for everyone who stopped by to chat with us. Thank you to all the visitors, organisers, and fellow exhibitors who contributed to such an open and inclusive atmosphere.

At HIC, we remain committed to supporting international communities in Sweden and creating spaces where people can connect, grow, and thrive.

We look forward to seeing many of you again at future events! 😊

Summer in Lund has its own rhythm ☀️🌿🍓

June is lively, with celebrations, students everywhere, long bright evenings. Then after Midsummer, the city suddenly slows down. Many students leave, some locals head to their summer houses, others travel in camper vans. By August, the energy returns and the city fills up again.

💭 If it’s your first summer in Lund or Skåne, here are a few things worth exploring.

🎓 “Studenten” season, music in the parks, outdoor events everywhere… Sommarlund makes the whole city feel alive in summer.
📱Check the Sommarlund program to find your favorite activities, or download the Visit Lund app to find what is going on exactly in the moment.

If it feels too hot in the city but you don’t want to travel far, here are some nearby places to cool down:
🌊 Källbybadet - outdoor pools and a classic Lund summer spot;
🌊 Klostergården plaskdamm - a small splash pool perfect for hot afternoons;
🌊 Borgarparken plaskdamm - another easy local place to cool off on warm days;

❗By the way, Swimming club Poseidon is offering free swimming lessons during weeks 25–26 for children and teens living in Linero, Klostergården, or Norra Fäladen. It’s only for new participants, check their website for details.

If you feel like taking a break from the city, Skåne opens up fast. Within an hour or two, you can be by the sea, on sandy beaches, or in small coastal towns that feel like a different world compared to Lund.
📍 Ales Stenar - ancient stone formations, sea views, and dramatic sunsets;
📍 Sandhammaren - one of Sweden’s most beautiful sandy beaches;
📍 Mölle - a charming coastal town with cliffs, swimming spots, and a classic summer vibe.

🎫 A good thing to know: Skånetrafiken’s Summer Ticket makes it easier and cheaper to explore the region by train and bus.

You’ll notice how certain moments quietly shape the season and bring people together. There are a few must experience Swedish traditions you shouldn’t miss:
💚 National Day - flags, picnics, and small city celebrations on June 6
💚 Midsummer - dancing, flowers, and long bright nights
💚 Crayfish party - late summer dinners with shellfish, songs, and silly hats

If summer for you is not only about rest but also about personal growth, there are plenty of ways to stay inspired here. Maybe this is the perfect moment to try something new.
💡 Check our previous post about summer oppen language cafés, and visit Folkuniversitetet to find a course that suits you.

Even in summer, there are still good ways to step into working life or get your first experience in the Swedish job market. Things slow down a bit, but that can actually make it a great moment to explore internships or seasonal work.
✅ Jobbsprånget - visit our event on 10 June to learn more;
✅ Arbetsförmedlingen summer jobs - explore available opportunities;
✅ Kick Start Program - applications open in August to Fall 2026.

Summer in Lund and Skåne is a little bit of everything: celebrations, quiet pauses, nature just around the corner, small traditions, new opportunities, and moments to simply slow down and enjoy where you are.

Whether you’re new here or have lived in Sweden for years, we hope this summer surprises you in the best way.

Wishing you a beautiful summer 🌿✨

Summer in Lund feels different ☀️🍓⛱️

When summer comes, the city slowly changes its rhythm. Many regular activities take a break and schedules get lighter.

But when you’re new in Sweden, or still building your life here, you don’t always want to slow down.

You’re still learning. Still building a network. Still keeping the rhythm.
Because building a life in a new country doesn’t take a summer break.

📖That’s why we’ve collected a list of language cafés in Lund that stay open during the summer.

❓Know any other summer activities, language cafés, or community spaces in Lund?

🧑‍🤝‍🧑 One of the most valuable outcomes of the Kick-Start Program is the community that grows beyond the sessions themselves.

Today we’d like to tell you about Elena Antohi, who recently offered to support other participants by reviewing CVs and sharing practical advice on job searching.

🎙️We asked Elena to share a bit about herself:

“I have worked in recruitment and HR for more than 15 years, supporting clients with CV writing, LinkedIn optimization, interview preparation, and career guidance in Romania and the UK.
Even with many years of professional experience, rebuilding a career in a new country comes with challenges, uncertainty, and continuous learning.
The Kick-Start Program reminded me how important adaptability, persistence, and community support are. This inspired me to encourage a similar sense of support among us as Kick Start Program participants, all navigating a new labour market.”

✨ Moments like this truly reflect the spirit of the program: people inspired by the community choosing to give back, support others, and create opportunities together. What we can say for sure is that KSP is more than just a program - it’s a network built on collaboration, generosity, and shared growth.

If you want to be part of this feeling, then August is your moment 🤫

🚀Our Kick‑Start Program Fall 2026 info sessions begin in August.

Just moved to Sweden? Or still trying to figure out how everything works here? 🧐

🆘 Försäkringskassan, Skatteverket, Arbetsförmedlingen, Uppehållstillstånd, Vårdcentral, BVC, VAB, Swish… (Add your own “mysterious Swedish words” in the comments!)

A new country comes with a new system and a new language. It’s completely normal to feel unsure about where to begin.

That’s why the Welcome Meeting at International Citizen Hub Lund exists: bringing together practical tips, useful insights, and available support in one place.

It’s a space where newcomers in Sweden come together to:
✔️figure out how things actually work here
✔️meet others who are also starting from zero
✔️get answers to all the “simple but important” questions
✔️find a sense of stability

📆Important:
The meeting on 28 May will be the last Welcome Meeting of this season.
After that is summer break. Next sessions start again in August.

👉 Save this post so you don’t forget
👉 Share it with someone new in Sweden. This might be exactly what they didn’t know they needed.

🎭 Every 4 years, something strange happens in Lund.

Lundakarnevalen is coming back on May 22–24, and honestly there’s nothing quite like it.

🎪 For one weekend, Lund turns into a giant surreal playground filled with parades, satire, concerts, student theatre, absurd costumes and thousands of people who collectively decide that normal life can wait.

The funny part is: most people can’t fully explain what the carnival actually is.

It’s a bit of a festival.
A bit of theatre.
A bit of satire.
A bit of chaos.
But mostly - it’s a feeling.

If you’ve recently moved to Lund, this is one of those moments where you suddenly understand why people fall in love with this city.

A few facts:
✨ it only happens once every 4 years
✨ students spend almost a year building it
✨ every carnival gets its own unique theme and identity and then disappears forever

Have you already planned something to experience during the carnival? 👀

On May 29, we celebrate the very first International Citizen Day in Lund 🌍

To mark the occasion, we’ve collected some facts that show just how uniquely international Lund really is.

Behind Lund’s quiet streets, bike lanes, and cozy cafés is something people don’t always notice: a city built by people from all over the world. 🌍 👥Today, people from 189 countries live here, bringing different languages, cultures, traditions, and stories into the city’s everyday life.

Around 1 in 4 people in Lund has an international background. Many come from Europe, Asia, and other parts of the world to study, work, build families, start businesses, and create a new sense of home here.

Being international in Lund often means sharing the same small experiences:
getting confused by the housing queue, surviving the winter darkness, discovering fika culture, hearing five different languages on the same bus, and eventually realizing that this city starts to feel like home. 🏡

🚅 Lund is also one of the most internationally connected cities in the region. Every day, more than 42,000 people commute into Lund for work, while over 24,000 commute out, making the city a constant flow of people, ideas, and cultures.

Despite its international character, what makes Lund special is the feeling of belonging. 😍 According to the Citizen Survey 2025, 99% of Lund residents consider it an ideal place to live, which is higher than the national average.

And maybe that is what International Citizen Day is really about:
celebrating the people who moved across borders and, over time, became part of the city’s everyday life 💛
