Zardozi, a registered Afghan non-governmental organization aims to assist women to earn a steady income from embroidery and handicraft production.

Zardozi, a registered Afghan non-governmental organization, originated as
an income generating project 26 years ago. It aims to assist some of the illiterate women from among the thousands of families that poured across the border to escape warfare and currently reside in rural areas of eastern Afghanistan and in
refugee camps in Pakistan. The money which the women earn at Zardozi empowers them

in many diverse
ways. They describe having an income of their own as life changing. Many use
their income to support their children’s education and on health related issues. Zardozi also assists about 1,000 other women in poor urban areas to start small
businesses selling handicrafts and clothing to shopkeepers and traders. In
addition, we work with more than 20 small businesses in the handicraft sector,
guiding and helping them to improve their business and production skills.
