AVILON ZOO is a 7.5-hectare wildlife conservatory in Rodriguez, Rizal, Philippines, managed and operated by the Avilon Wildlife Conservation Foundation and School of Practical Veterinary Management, Incorporated

. AVILON ZOO is home to more than 500 species of animals, from arachnids and insects, freshwater fishes, amphibians and reptiles, to birds and mammals. The zoo is also a botanical garden with a wide array of flora species and varieties in collection. AVILON runs a veterinary hospital, a zookeeper training center and a science and information center within the zoo to cater for the welfare requirements of all life under its care. AVILON also launched the WildCARE Initiative to develop programs aimed at significantly contributing to wildlife science and education as well as to biodiversity and wildlife habitat conservation. AVILON ZOO is continuously evolving as it aims to be a premier wildlife science and conservation center in the Philippines and in Southeast Asia. AVILON ZOO is an Institutional Member of the Southeast Asian Zoos and Aquariums Association (SEAZA) and a pioneer member of the Philippine Zoos and Aquariums Association (PHILZOOS).

Meet the Gray's Monitor, or the Butaan! 🦎

Did you know that they are one of the largest lizards found in Asia and can only be found in the Philippines? They are arboreal, and they spend most of their lives up in the trees.

Unlike most species of monitor lizards, they are fruit eaters (frugivorous), which makes them vital seed dispersers in nature.

If you ever visit their exhibit, make sure to look up the trees, and you might be lucky enough to spot them! 💚

It’s World Binturong Day! Join us in celebrating this wonderful species and learning more about them. 🐾

The Binturong, also known as the Bearcat, is a nocturnal arboreal mammal with scent glands that smell like buttered popcorn. With strong tails that act as their fifth limb and ankles that can rotate backwards by 180°, they are very good climbers.

Binturongs play a key role as seed dispersers in nature. However, their populations have been declining over recent years, and they are currently listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List.

It's a Meerkat Monday! 🐾

Did you know that a group of Meerkats is called a mob? They take on different roles, such as foraging for food, babysitting, and standing guard as a sentry.

They have dark patches around their eyes, which protect their eyes from the sun's glare. They have long front claws, which help them dig burrows and forage for food.
