‎From the heroes of the past who have fought with their minds and strength to achieve our independence up to the heroes of the present time who continuously help our country to be better, growing, and a centre of intelligence, diligence, and good character, above all.

‎The heroes, both in history and modern times, are a reflection of our love for the country, our care for all of us Filipinos, and the unseen fight of the citizens – the youth, workers, ordinary people, and all that participate to shape our nation.

The Political Science Parliament strongly condemns the acts that took place during the Burungitan 2026. There is no place in an academic institution for behavior that compromises the safety, dignity, and well-being of its students. An event meant for students to celebrate and enjoy should never become an environment where people are subjected to actions that cross boundaries or put them at risk.

What happened should not be dismissed as simply part of the celebration or as something that students should just tolerate. Throwing mud at people, forcing interactions, or engaging in behavior that disregards another person’s boundaries is unacceptable. No amount of excitement, crowd energy, or celebration justifies actions that cause harm, fear, or discomfort to another person.

We also strongly reject the normalisation of these actions. Calling them “just a joke” or “part of the fun” does not erase their impact. Everyone has the right to participate in university activities without having to worry about being targeted, humiliated, or made uncomfortable. Accountability must remain a basic part of how we conduct ourselves within the university community.

We further call on everyone to exercise responsibility in discussing the incident. Refrain from making jokes, insensitive remarks, or comments that dismiss what happened or place blame on those affected. This is not something to be turned into entertainment or gossip. The experiences and concerns of those involved deserve to be treated seriously and with respect.

We refuse to accept a culture where harm is excused as fun, where boundaries are treated as insignificant, or where silence is mistaken for acceptance. Celebration is never an excuse to disregard another person’s dignity. We can do better, and we must do better. Because a university community is only worth celebrating when every person in it is safe, respected, and heard.
