𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐞𝐚 𝐈𝐬 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐐𝐮𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐄𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲

This Pride Month, MSU-IIT Drag Superstar stands in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community in affirming a simple but urgent truth: human dignity is not conditional, and rights are not privileges granted by comfort or majority approval. Pride is not only celebration—it is a political reminder that visibility was fought for, and that equality is still unfinished work.

In a society where identities continue to be questioned, regulated, or reduced to stereotypes, we reject any system—social, cultural, or institutional—that treats gender expression and sexual orientation as deviations rather than dimensions of humanity. The struggle of LGBTQ+ individuals is not abstract; it is reflected in everyday exclusions, in the absence of protections, in discrimination masked as “tradition,” and in policies that fail to recognize lived realities.

Drag, in this context, is more than performance. It is resistance. It is a cultural and political language that challenges rigid norms of gender, power, and respectability. It disrupts the idea that identity must be linear, silent, or acceptable only when it conforms. To exist in drag is to assert that expression cannot be legislated out of existence.

Pride Month also calls attention to how progress is often uneven. While visibility has increased, acceptance is not always matched by protection. Inclusion in name does not always translate into safety in practice. This is why Pride remains necessary—not as decoration, but as demand.

As MSU-IIT Drag Superstar, we affirm that educational spaces must be safe spaces for all students, regardless of identity. Universities are not only centers of learning but also spaces where values are shaped, and where silence in the face of discrimination becomes complicity. Neutrality in the face of inequality is not neutrality at all.

We stand with LGBTQ+ individuals who continue to navigate systems that were not built with them in mind. We stand with those still finding language for who they are, and those who have long been forced to defend it. And we stand against any structure that insists some identities deserve less space, less voice, or less humanity.

Pride is not asking for permission. It is a demand to be recognized fully, equally, and without conditions.

𝐈𝐭’𝐬 𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐉𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐚 𝐂𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐰𝐚𝐥𝐤, 𝐈𝐭’𝐬 𝐚 𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐒𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐧’𝐭 𝐇𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐥𝐞

The rainbow crosswalk in Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology is not there to make everyone comfortable—and it was never meant to. It exists as a visible reminder that q***r people belong in this campus, in this institution, and in every space that some still think should exclude us.

What’s disappointing, though unsurprising, is how quickly some people reveal their prejudice the moment inclusivity becomes visible. A few stripes of color on concrete have somehow managed to disturb those who claim it’s “just unnecessary,” as if the real issue isn’t the paint but the existence of the people it represents. If a crosswalk threatens your peace more than the discrimination q***r students endure daily, then maybe the problem was never the crosswalk.

Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology has always upheld inclusivity as one of its values—a commitment to creating spaces where diversity is not merely tolerated but recognized and respected. The rainbow crosswalk is part of that commitment. It reflects the kind of institution IIT strives to be: progressive, welcoming, and unafraid to stand on the right side of history.

But inclusivity is not selective. You cannot praise diversity when it is convenient and reject it when it challenges your biases. Homophobia disguised as “opinion” remains homophobia. Discomfort with q***r visibility is not oppression; it is simply confrontation with a reality you can no longer ignore.

the MSU-IIT Drag Superstar, stand with every q***r student who crosses that rainbow path carrying both pride and the burden of surviving in spaces that still question their existence. This crosswalk is not merely paint—it is proof that q***r people have carved space for themselves in institutions that once refused to see them. The rainbow does not seek validation; it stands as a declaration. We are here, we have always been here, and no amount of hatred, ridicule, or bigotry will erase that. Pride has never been passive—it has always been resistance, and as long as homophobia persists, our visibility will remain our protest.
