Notre Dame of Dadiangas University’s Political Science Society (NDDU-PSS) crowned its first Mr. and Ms. Political Science at its inaugural Political Science Night, dubbed “Enigma,” at Ameliya’s Venue on October 30, 2026, staging in secret an event previous administrations had planned for years.
Team Vega’s Jhescie Sabusap was named Mr. Political Science, with teammate Mary Carl Franza taking the Ms. Political Science crown among eight candidates from the society’s four teams.
NDDU-PSS President Andrea Aurora Panerio said the pageant aimed to find members who could follow the society’s three Hiyas ng NDDU winners from the past four years.
“What if the next person to carry that legacy is already here, just waiting for an opportunity to be discovered?” Andrea said.
Andrea said the night fulfilled a long-held dream of past administrations, whose plans for the event never pushed through.
“Dili na siya guni-guni lang, real na jud diay siya [It is no longer just imagined, it is truly real],” she said.
The society kept the night off the Political Science Week 2026 program, with Andrea describing the “Enigma” theme as a Halloween nod to the secrecy surrounding the event.
Team Altair topped the Vocal Solo Competition, with Team Sirius finishing second.
Team Altair also bagged first place in the Mobile Journalism Competition, edging out second-placer Team Sirius.
Kim Tawon of Team Sirius took the stage as Yoyoy Villame in “Isang Ticket, Para sa Concert ni,” which became a solo performance after drawing only one entry.
Andrea opened the program with a welcome address on why the first Political Science Night mattered to the society’s members, known as Valkyries.
“For once, I wanted them to simply enjoy being Valkyries without having to think about anything else,” she said.
Ms. Kathleen Moral, a Political Science faculty member, delivered the closing message before DJ RG Lopez led the socialization segment.
Andrea said she would leave the event’s future to the next administration, hoping lower-year students would carry the tradition forward.
