THE TOASTMASTERS COURT IS NOW IN SESSION!
The last September meeting set last night seemed to be start with an odd theme, Dura Lex Sed Lex (a famous latin phrase which translates to” The law is harsh, but it is a law.”). But somehow our Toastmasters of the Evening DTM Aga made the night’s proceedings fun and memorable. Which only means one can make meetings fun and full of learning with unusual meeting themes. Our word of the day (WOD), “Inexorable” was introduced by TM Lica.
We had three table topics speakers (President Mikel, VPE Sonia and new member TM Debbie), to answer interesting topics presented by our capably and enthusiastic Table Topics Master DTM & Past Division C. Director Joy. From topics answers covering washing of dishes, “fast and the furious” driving skills to setting a new law for public videoke singing to 10PM. It was surely a challenging at the same time fun moment to speak and listen to the Table Topics volunteers. All three volunteers qualified for the attendees choice of Best Speaker in Table Topics.
We then moved on to our two prepared speakers, including the ice breakers speech on TM Rhoda with her speech entitled, “Home is a person not a place.” The ice breaker speech is the first speech project any new member presents to start one's journey in Toastmasters. TM Bryan was our 2nd speaker with his humorous speech entitled, “Du-ol Nalang”. All two speakers qualified for the attendees choice of Best Speaker in Prepared Speech.
We added a special Educational Talk by Club Advisor, PDG & DTM Nolie Espina, to remind our new and seasoned members of the importance on having a MESSAGE in your speech. The message is indeed the “heart and soul of a speech” and the importance of having a message.
We capped the night with our special guest, D75 PQD & DTM Jedfrey Tan that lead the meeting as our General Evaluator as the leader of the evaluation team. DTM Nicee and TM Charlene gave their honest feedback to our two prepared speakers. Both evaluators qualified for the attendees choice of Best Speaker in Evaluation. Our table topics evaluator TM Adriann, a first-timer, did an excellent job is giving feedback to all our table topics speakers and the Table Topics Master. Our evaluation functionaries did not disappoint with a though evaluation of our usage of our language (TM Denzel), ah/um/filler words (TM Debbie), and time management (TM Sonia).
We ended September just like how we started the month – strong. We will continue our regular meeting on Oct. 6 @ 6:30PM in Andalucia Room, Casino Espanol de Cebu. Join us and send us a message.
