A Day of Grace: BEC Big Day 2026
Diocese of Kalookan
October 3, 2026 | Notre Dame of Greater Manila
The BEC Big Day 2026 opened with an Opening Prayer, setting a reverent tone for the gathering. The Procession of Patron Saints followed, with images of Our Lady of Grace, the Sacred Heart of Jesus, San Roque, San Bartolome, and San Jose carried by their respective vicariates, symbolizing the shared devotion and diversity of the BEC communities.
During the Roll Call of Each Vicariate, the wide participation across the diocese became evident. The presence of communities already reaching the Mission Stage served as an encouragement and a reminder of the growth that can happen when a community remains committed to the BEC journey.
The talk proper was given by Fr. Kyiel Bueno, OFM, and centered on the theme “Kaibigan, Kalakbay, Kamisyon: A Journey with St. Francis of Assisi.” With the 800th death anniversary of St. Francis as a framework, the talk connected his life to BEC, about brotherhood, community, and the giftedness of each person. As Kaibigan, St. Francis embraced the l***r and saw Christ in him, an invitation to love those who are difficult to love and to reach out to the poor, the outcast, and the oppressed. As Kalakbay, he chose poverty and brotherhood in a world obsessed with power, fame, and wealth, reminding communities that despite differences, the journey toward Christ is shared. As Kamisyon, he responded to the call to repair God’s house, not only by rebuilding a church but by participating in God’s mission in society and among all people.
The event did not end with the talk. The Eucharistic Celebration followed, presided over by Cardinal Ambo David, DD. His homily added another layer to the theme. Part of his homily reflected on Job, whose friends first sat with him in silence but later blamed him in his suffering. The insight offered was that sometimes people only need presence, no explanations, no solutions, just companionship in pain. This is what it means to be Kaibigan, Kalakbay, and Kamisyon.
The half-day event was a call to be true friends, faithful companions, and willing missionaries in communities and beyond. May the experience continue to inspire BEC communities to journey together with faith, presence, and mission.
