MEET OUR TEAM: Rider Representative 📣

We’re delighted to introduce Poppy Draper as Waimauku Pony Club’s Rider Representative for the 2026/27 season!

So, what does a Rider Representative do? Our Rider Rep is a friendly point of contact for our members - someone riders can approach with ideas, questions, feedback or concerns throughout the season. They help ensure our riders have a voice within the club and that their ideas and perspectives are heard.

A little introduction from Poppy:

“Hi everyone, I’m Poppy! I’m 14 years old and started riding when I was six. I’ve been part of Waimauku Pony Club for around seven years now and have a gorgeous little mare, Daisy, who definitely keeps me on my toes with her very sassy personality!

I enjoy competing in both showjumping and eventing and have competed up to 80cm. This season, I’m hoping to move up the heights and take on some new challenges.

I’m super excited to be your Rider Representative this year and to get to know more of you, hear your ideas, and listen to any questions or concerns you may have. I’m always happy to stop for a chat, so please come and say hi!”

Congratulations Poppy!

MEET OUR TEAM: President 📣

We’re delighted to introduce Kirstyn Kloosman as the President of Waimauku Pony Club for the 2026/27 season!

Kirstyn’s connection with Waimauku Pony Club spans almost three decades, having first joined the club at just nine years old when she was beginning her riding journey. She remained an active member until she headed off to university, before returning to the club in 2015 when her nephew began riding.

Since returning, Kirstyn has become an integral part of the club, spending the past six seasons as a coach, working with riders across a wide range of ages, levels and abilities. She has also served on the Committee for the past two seasons, bringing a wealth of experience and knowledge.

Kirstyn has a huge passion for young riders and the opportunities Pony Club provides - helping them build confidence, develop their skills, work towards their goals and, most importantly, enjoy the journey along the way. She particularly loves watching riders progress and seeing how much they can achieve throughout their time at Pony Club.

We’re incredibly fortunate to have Kirstyn’s experience, dedication and enthusiasm guiding our club, and we’re excited to have her take on the role of President for the season ahead!

Wow! A huge thank you to everyone who has enrolled with Waimauku Pony Club for the 2026/27 season! We have lots of new faces joining us, and we’re so excited to welcome you and your families to the club!

With our little club continuing to grow, we’re thrilled to be able to expand our coaching team. A warm welcome to our brand new Lead Rein Coach, Samantha Syme!

Samantha has been riding for 12 years and brings experience across multiple disciplines, competing to Level 2 Dressage, 105cm Eventing and 1.20m Show Jumping. She has represented Waitemata Rodney in Show Jumping and Dressage, as well as NZPCA in China. Samantha holds her B Certificate and is no stranger to coaching little riders, previously taking the Riders Without Horses group at Silverdale Pony Club.

This season, she’ll be inspiring and supporting our lead rein riders as they build confidence, learn the fundamentals and make that important transition from lead rein to riding independently.
We’re so excited to have Samantha joining our coaching team and can’t wait to see our littlest riders flourish under her guidance!
