Come along and create at this Folk-Inspired cake painting workshop in July.
Saturday 25th of July, 1:30pm - 2:30pm

Discover the beauty of folk-inspired ceramic designs through the unique experience of painting on a glazed cake surface that behaves like porcelain.
In this hands-on workshop, you will learn how to apply edible paints directly onto a smooth glazed “canvas”, creating your own miniature edible artwork inspired by traditional folk motifs. Step-by-step support will be provided throughout the workshop. No prior experience is necessary.

Cost: $62.00 pp. The includes 1 glazed cake ready to paint, utensils and food colouring.
Participants will also enjoy fine teas and sweet treats in a welcoming, creative environment.

Coming Next Month 🤩 We’re excited to be holding a fundraising art auction featuring works generously donated by artists from our community.
This is a great opportunity to purchase an original artwork at an affordable price while supporting Kumeū Arts and the work we do.
The auction will be run as a silent auction, allowing bidders to place offers and outbid previous bids throughout the event.
In the lead-up to the auction, we’ll be sharing a series of Artist Profiles, introducing the talented artists who have kindly donated their work.

Come and create your own everlasting bouquet using a beautiful selection of colours from my home-grown and dried hydrangea and protea collection.

We're excited to be hosting Nemesh's oil painting workshop at the end of this month.
Saturday 27th June and Sunday 28th June, 12pm-3pm both days
COST: $150 for one day or $275 for both days.
The price includes 1-2 medium-sized canvases (50 x 40 cm) per day as well as all the tools necessary for the workshop.

​Oil painting is a rich, forgiving medium that allows depth, texture, and emotion. Through guided demonstrations and individual support, participants will learn how to handle oils with confidence while developing their own artistic voice.
By the end of the workshop, each participant will complete at least one finished oil painting per day, often two, regardless of prior experience.

This workshop is not about rigid rules. It is about discovery, confidence, and expression. "My approach encourages participants to work intuitively and courageously, experiment freely with oil paint, build confidence regardless of skill level - let go of perfection and embrace process".

June at Kumeū Arts

This month we’re proud to be part of the Auckland Festival of Photography with two inspiring exhibitions celebrating creativity, movement, and community. In our Pod Gallery, Fang Yuan presents Wu – Everything is Empty, exploring the festival theme of movement [Kori]. “Wu” represents the space before things take shape, a moment of possibility, transition, and becoming. In the Main Gallery, Kumeū in Focus showcases the annual exhibition from Kumeū Arts Members and the Kumeū Photography Group, featuring diverse subjects and creative perspectives from our local photographic community.

Entry is always free, with new exhibitions every month, so there’s always something fresh to discover. While visiting, browse our gallery shop for beautiful locally made art and craft, perfect for gifts or your home, and explore the range of concerts, classes and creative courses available at Kumeū Arts. Our two exhibitions for showcase the incredible breadth of contemporary photography—diverse in both subject matter and approach. The galleries are filled with light, calm, creativity, and conversation.
A special thank you to for bringing her beautiful and thought-provoking exhibition to Kumeū Arts. As she shared this week, “Contemporary art is controversial… but it’s okay. There will be people who like it and people who don’t.”
We wholeheartedly support artists who are willing to be brave, challenge perspectives, and spark dialogue. We admire not only Yuan Fang’s work, but also the ideas and sentiments behind it for those who take the time to engage, reflect, and understand.
We’re proud to have these exhibitions as part of this year’s festival.
