Update 6.30am- No issues with flooding on main roads. River levels rising, but not expected to reach capacity. Rain band has passed over Auckland.

Update- 1.45am- River levels are well below flooding level- rainfall has risen to about 10mm/hr. The rain band is moving steadily southwards and should hopefully clear Auckland by morning.

We will be watching the weather overnight and will send a text alert if the river levels break their banks and cover roads. At present Auckland has a heavy rain watch, NOT a warning. Updates will be made here over the course of the evening and tomorrow morning as well if there is anything urgent to report. We are hoping for an uneventful night, as I'm sure you all are.

After the recent cyclone event, Auckland Council's emergency related services are wanting to know how you found the communications around the event, among other things. We know it was not as severe in the NW of Auckland, but other areas were not so lucky

Craig McIlroy - the architect behind Auckland’s $760m 'Making Space for Water' programme - argues the country has reached an inflection point that requires moving beyond underground infrastructure toward 'blue-green networks'.

He wants to see better use of streams and wetlands to safely channel overflow.

As Wellington continues clearing debris from last Monday's catastrophic flash floods, the scale of the challenge faced by the country's struggling wastewater systems is laid bare.

Update 1.15pm-River levels are rising slowly at Oraha Road, but falling further up the valley towards the Waitakere Ranges. Rainfall is easing at present. No serious flooding is expected given the front is now moving north, away from our area. We will continue to monitor the river levels throughout the afternoon.

Kumeu Emergency Network is monitoring the rainfall and river levels over the course of the day.
River levels are rising steadily, with Oraha Road rising quickly due to 10mm/hr rainfall earlier and near saturated soils.
MetService New Zealand predicts the rainfall will ease mid afternoon in the Kumeu Valley area.
Updates will be given later in the day.
It would be wise to move stock, equipment and vehicle from potential overland flooding just incase the front stalls over our area.
