Check your bbqs to before you lite them up..just this week a pesky lil starling made a huge nest in 1 of our firies Dad's bbq's...it pays to check before you crank up the old bbq 👀🔥☀️

It's that time of year again.... those little starlings are starting to nest in your vehicles.

It only takes less than an hour for them to create a fire hazard in your car, tractor, or header. So pop your bonnet and check before you turn the key.

Smokey sings 🎶📣🔥🫶👨‍🚒👩‍🚒dont forget to put your ⏰️ 🕒 forward an hour before you go to 🛌😴 tonight..and check your smoke alarms..if you have family and elderly folk near by share the ❤️ and check theirs too..so then we will all be good in the hood 👀😇😎🫶🚨🚒⏰️

It's always “is your smoke alarm is working”, never “how is your smoke alarm?” 😔

This daylight saving weekend check in on your smoke alarms. Are they feeling energised? Are they looking a little dusty? Are they close to their use by date?

This is your friendly reminder to check your smoke alarms and give them some love this Spring ❤️

⏰ As daylight saving approaches, we want you to check your smoke alarms

Every second person who dies in a house fire is over 60.

To give yourself and your older family, friends and neighbours the earliest possible warning, you need smoke alarms installed in every bedroom, hallway and living area.

One of the most commonly overlooked places for a smoke alarm is the bedroom. When you’re asleep, you can’t smell smoke, but smoke alarms can and they’ll wake you up if a fire gets started – so you can get out fast.

✅ Test your smoke alarms by pressing the red button
✅ Check they're less than 10 years old
✅ Install alarms in every bedroom, hallway and living area

💚 While you're checking yours, help others check theirs too

Every year for the past 6+ years, we have held community meetings across Canterbury prior to the summer fire season. Usually we approach the communities and advertise our meetings, sometimes with success and sometimes not so successful.

This time though we thought we might try something a little bit different to kick off our preparedness sessions and ask you, the amazing people of Facebook and Instagram, where you think we should come and have a chat? What communities would like us to come educate them on the upcoming fire season and how to keep your properties safe?

We usually combine our sessions with speakers from Civil Defence and Police, to talk about evacuations and animal welfare during fires. Are there any other agencies you would like to hear from at these talks?

We want to hear your thoughts and ideas about how we can help you be fire safe this summer. So let us know below 👇

Happy International Dog Day! 🐕

Today we're celebrating our four-legged best friends who greet us at the end of a long shift, help us unwind and recharge and remind us to take care of our own wellbeing after spending our days helping others 🥰🦴

Show us your pups in the comments! 🐶

Brrrrr! Many parts of the motu are feeling the cold, which means there are fires and heaters cranking in lots of households today!

So, this is a reminder to keep a one metre clearance around your heater or fireplace. Soft furnishings such as blankets, clothes, beds and couches don’t need to be touching a heat source to catch fire, if they are too close, they will burn!

🔥Hot tip: If you’re unsure, measure it. Remind yourself how big a metre is because ‘she’ll be right’ won’t cut it!
