Scanned some old half bred ewes today. I decided to do a trial and mated them to some grunty shedding ram lambs I bred. Pretty happy with only 1 dry, 182% and 86% in lamb in the first 25 days. Few lambs in them too. Looking forward to seeing the survival rate of the thicker skinned shedders. Red Oak Stud

R2 in calf heifers made it home ready for the bull walk this Thursday. These will be on display at the bull walk and on sale day, along with some of the sale bull's Dams. No one likes homework but do a bit of study like this fella as to what we have on offer and we look foward to seeing everyone on the 21st of May at the bull walk or on the 12th of June at the sale. Pretty special this one!

Palmdale weaning done and dusted for another year. Happy with the results. Halfbred ewes weaned 160% lambs. We killed just over 50% at 19.7kg and kept the stores which were 34kg average. With such high prices its great to make the most of it. This works out to be $304 per ewe. Not to mention the $35 worth of wool still to be sold. Its no coincidence these ewes preformed like this. Check out our material wean weight EBV at the end of the reel. This is the whole RedOak stud flock average. Just outside the top 10 % on merino select. Quarter bred rams are available for sale now which are also in this reel. You will also notice something different... we are very impressed with the first lot of lambs so watch this space for more info on what we are up to with the shedder program.

With Ai in the cows all finished for this year it was time to unload some mouths. The 2025 on farm lamb sale going well with 4000 lambs heading off. Here's a quick snippet of what we've been up to. We still have some rams available for anyone that is after one also. 🐏🍁

Had the best in the biz here during the week. Mat Bailey from here muscle scanning the bulls and heifers and ticking off another job at the same time, branding them aswell. We highly recommend Mat not only for his marginal chat but the awesome job he does as well as the quality muscle scanning tech he's using to give us the best results. Bulls and heifers are coming along nicely. Looking forward to getting the scanning results back and seeing how the brands turn out.

A bit happening on the farm lately. Here are a few photos of what we've been up to. Cows all finished calving and tailing all tidied up. Nor west winds seem to be persistent in keeping any moisture from growing anything. Bit of balage still going out to cows. Some mothering up jobs on with the Stud ewes and lambs tagged and tailed. A short video of the Rom rams that will be available soon that have been tested and shown to have great worm resistance. We still have available a handful of yearling bulls suitable for heifers.
