Caroline Bay parkrun run report for 4th October 2026, event no 71.
What an awesome day to have a parkrun, held on 3rd October. 22 fantastic volunteers put on the 71st parkrun for Caroline Bay here in Timaru.
The inaugural parkrun was on the 3rd May 2025 and since then we have had lots of you taking part, well over 10,000 individual parkrun’s and how many of you have achieved personal best in that time, such a great achievement, you all should be proud of yourselves.
It is early spring and it turned out to be just perfect for a run / walk around the great 5km course we have in Timaru.
The boardwalk was great, with no obvious breeze and temperatures being sort of OK for running, yet a tad chilly for walking!
It was all-in-all a perfect day for us, we also achieved course firsts and volunteer milestones.
211 individual parkrunners lined up for the start under the watchful eye of Celesté. This is a truly amazing effort from those of you who took part.
The 3-lap course was quickly done and dusted by Rowan Hewson in a personal PB time (and VM35-39 course record) of 17:16.
Soon after him, we had our First woman home in a time of 23.01 - well done JW11-14 Ella McCully, for her first, first-place finish!
Should not forget the tail-walker, Debbie Willett, arriving back at the end of her 3 laps in 63.54.
Well done to all finishers - you all achieved a great thing. There were 47 of you who achieved personal bests today.
Many thanks to the 24 of you who were first times to Caroline Bay, and hope you will all return sometime soon. We do try to be quite friendly.
10 people actually attended their very first time at parkrun - welcome to parkrun, all achieved brilliant achievements, you know who you are.
We had a few parkrun milestones, with Junior, Liam Hamer, achieving his volunteer 10 (v10) and Daniel Maude making junior 10, with both Esther Robinson and Matthew Withington achieving their 25 milestones.
What better way of spending a Saturday morning than getting some milestones.
Tyrone Grace is closing in on his 200 parkrun milestone, but closely chasing his heels is Darren de Groot on 176.
But near parkrun royalty is Blair McConnell, who completed his 216th parkrun with us on Saturday. However, at 270, Aoife Esfandiari is far and away our parkrun royalty for this week. Awesomeness is clearly evident here 😊
We had an awesome team of 22 volunteers support the event, and parkrun would not work without a great team of like-minded individuals.
All can all see the benefit that parkrun can and does offer the community.
Please feel free to volunteer and be a part of such a brilliant fantastic awesome bunch of people.
