‼️Update: updated results ‼️

Hi folks,

We republished results last night following some useful feedback 👍

During the event yesterday, we were aware our system got slightly out of sync for a short period between roughly 35th & 50th places, before it was righted thereafter, so hopefully not too many people affected.

Thank you for understanding. These things happen 🙂

Event # 53 - 30/05/26

Today, on a cold, yet still and dry morning, we welcomed 147 parkrunners to the Bay.

Thank you all for coming along on a morning that seemed to get colder 🥶 the longer it went.

Great work bearing with it, and special thanks to our volunteer 🦺 crew out there on the course, ensuring everyone got round safely ❤️

Of our 147, 21 parkrunners were having their first go at our event, with visitors from Christchurch, Dunedin and a couple from as far as the Netherlands 🇳🇱 ❤️

5 of our newbies were scanning their barcode for the first time EVER - always nice to have more new people experiencing parkrun for their first times!

Welcome along Oli, Dougie, Kate, Trish & Amber! 👋

We hope you all enjoyed your morning with us, and have managed to warm-up a bit!

Albeit cold, that didn’t stop an awesome 25 (17%) of you managing a new PB time, which is just great 👌💪 well done if you managed to nab one.

Thanks, again, to all 14 of our volunteers helping out in all manner of ways today. We are so fortunate to have you supporting this event so regularly!

The observant of you will’ve noticed we even had some proper royalty 👑 volunteering 🦺 out on course this Kings 🤴 Birthday weekend 🤴what an honour! 😉😅 (we were none the wiser until post-event, as is usually the case…!)

Finally, we officially have new neighbours over the fence, with Ōamaru Public Gardens parkrun launching their event today, with a massive 178 finishers! 😍

For those that travelled down for it, we hope you had a great morning. Always nice to knock off that parkrun ‘challenge’!

Welcome to the parkrun family, Oamaru team - so good to have you with us! 😃

That now means a parkrun event roughly every hours drive south of Christchurch, all the way down to Invercargill - so good! 😊

Just over 36hrs ⏳ until event # 53 gets underway, and it looks like another great morning is forecast, so grab your sneakers 👟 cold weather gear (it’s likely to be fresh!) and friends/family, and head on down to Caroline Bay for another great morning of activity in the sun ☀️

We’re looking forward to welcoming you all, with Andrew B kicking off proceedings at 8:50am with our first-timers briefing.

For one reason or another, we’re a bit short of Run Directors this (public holiday) weekend, meaning you’ll have to make do with Colin again this week.

He’ll go through Main Briefing at 8:55am before launching 🚀 you into it at 9am 🕘

Midweek musings

🚨Winter course alternative 🚨

As we are about to hit Winter, we will almost undoubtedly come across parkrun mornings in which the boardwalk will be frozen/icy, which provides a Health & Safety hazard that we were keen to mitigate for, formally.

Following behind-the-scenes work over the past couple of months, we now have official parkrun approval for a Winter alternative course.

As you can see from the maps below, the alternative course will largely follow the same course as usual, with the main changes being:

- parkrunners will head slightly further along the path towards the port, before heading onto the grass for the turn-point

- parkrunners will then run along the grass, close to the fence-line by the dunes, instead of entering the boardwalk.

This will mean approx. 250m/lap more running on grass, however, it will save having to cancel the event.

To keep you all informed, we will aim to have confirmation of course choice (boardwalk vs grass) posted via Facebook post/reel by 8:20am on the morning of parkrun, following the pre-event course check by our volunteer team/Run Director decision.

It is good to formally have this option available to us now for the winter.

Our preference, though, will always be to have the usual boardwalk course where we can.

We hope you can understand and respect the Run Directors decision on event morning, whatever it may be. Ultimately, the decision comes down to safety 👍
