RDA provides interaction with horses to improve health and wellbeing outcomes for people experiencing disability, or who have specific challenges or needs, enabling them to have meaningful participation in, and contribution to, their community. The Timaru Group Riding for the Disabled is a voluntary, not for profit organisation which provides opportunities for anyone with a disability to enjoy the
rapeutic horse riding and horse related activities. We offer riding sessions during school term, three days per week. Sessions are staffed by volunteers, all with a passion for enabling riders to develop a level of independence and achieve personal goals. Timaru RDA does not receive any significant government funding and relies on its own fundraising activities, donations and sponsorship to provide services within the community. Riding therapy programmes (riding and interaction with horses) are designed to:
Complement conventional therapies and special needs education
Help build a riders core body strength, and are tailored to the needs of individuals
Benefits children and adults with a wide range of special needs
