🟥 Red Warning for Heavy Rain from 4pm Monday

Persistent heavy rain driven by onshore winds will see a large amount of rain fall in a relatively dry part of the country.

Slips, surface flooding, swollen rivers and streams should be expected and remember, Red Warnings are reserved for when the weather poses a significant risk to life.

MetService has updated its warnings for the South Island with parts of Canterbury and Marlborough now under a Red Rain Warning with significant rainfall forecast over the next couple days.

Do not take these warnings lightly. Your local Civil Defence and emergency services are working hard to prepare – please also do your bit. Act now to make sure you and your whānau are prepared, informed, and know what to do to stay safe.

⚠️ Severe weather can cause flooding, landslides, and hazardous driving conditions. Stay safe. Don’t take any chances.
⚠️ Never walk, drive or swim through floodwater. If you encounter rising floodwaters, don’t wait for an alert – evacuate to higher ground immediately.
⚠️ Stay alert for the warning signs of a landslide and get out if you don’t feel safe.
⚠️ Move stock to a safe area away from waterways and low-lying areas before nightfall and only if it is safe to do so.

Stay updated through your local Civil Defence Emergency Management Group pages, MetService New Zealand and NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi for highway closures and conditions.

An update on what our team has been up to over the last couple of months -

Concern has been expressed at the positioning of the SH1 road crossing island in the Seddon township. If you have any concerns please forward these to -

* We had a number of community members attend an Emergency Preparedness course in Blenheim.
* We are working on organising a ‘Community Notice Board’ that will be used in major emergency events. This will be a large board and located in the Seddon Shopping complex carpark.
* Rebecca Stevens represents our community at the Rural Advocacy Group, and attends meetings, shares any concern from community members, and any updates for our community. Thank you so much for this important connection!
*A member of our team, Stan, has offered to do CPR and defibrillator training with community members - sometime in July or August - let us know if you are interested.
*A group of community members will be doing radio training with the Marlborough Emergency team in July or August.

SH60 between Takaka and Collingwood is now OPEN following a prior closure.

All state highways in the Nelson/Tasman area are now fully open.
