Final call Selwyn!

After several months of getting out and about across the district, we (the Selwyn Youth Council) is now on the final leg of designing our Monopoly: Selwyn Edition board in partnership with Hasbro.

We’ve loved hearing your ideas while we've been out and about over summer - now it’s your last chance to have your say!
We’re looking for what best represents each of our Selwyn townships (https://www.selwyn.govt.nz/community/living-in-selwyn/townships) ....think landmarks, local gems, or anything that makes your community special. NB: We don’t need schools as every kura has been given the opportunity to feature through the Community Chest and Chance cards 😏

If you haven’t shared yet (or have one last idea!), drop it in the comments, send us a private message, or email us at [email protected].

Proud To Be Me is a series of stories highlighting some of our people in Selwyn who are doing great things in our community.

Over the next few weeks, we will be sharing some of these inspiring stories.

🖐️Meet Arran Armstrong. Once a shy student at Darfield High School, Arran pushed himself out of his comfort zone in 2025 when he took the stage to address a roomful of high-ranking officials, after receiving his Duke of Edinburgh Gold Medal.

It was a moment that showcased his courage, resilience, and willingness to grow.

You can read more about Arran’s story on our Council page here https://www.selwyn.govt.nz/news-And-events/news/kirwee-youngster-bursts-out-of-his-shy-bubble-to-take-on-the-world-2025

🖐️Meet Chris Pegman, an osteopath with a passion for photography.

In 2025 Chris took home one of the most prestigious photography awards winning a gold medal at the reFocus Awards.

Since then, his scenic photography has continued to gain recognition, earning multiple accolades, including international awards.

Join us for an expert panel discussion about Relationships and Sexuality Education (RSE) 🗣️

Evidence is clear that young people, parents, teachers, and others in education see the value of comprehensive RSE.

In light of the government’s call for submissions for the new RSE curriculum, we are gathering a group of advocacy experts who will share their expertise and ideas about how we can effectively garner more interest and activity in the RSE advocacy space.

We will also review the proposed changes to the RSE curriculum – what has changed, what has been omitted and the implications for teachers and young people.

When: Monday 30 March, 12.30 - 2.00pm via Zoom
