In week 10 we spent the day working around our native planting site, removing weeds, cutting back invasive trees and helping improve our environment for our native plants. Those pesky agapanthus, lily plants and wattle trees desperately needed our attention! Thank you to all the people who came to help, especially Julia from Restore Hibiscus & Bays - we are learning so much! 💚

International Students Give Back at Wenderholm Regional Park

 

Senior international students spent last Wednesday improving tracks at Wenderholm Maungatauhoro Park, supporting the work of Auckland Regional Parks.

The group worked alongside park ranger Leani on sections of track that can become muddy and vulnerable to washout during heavy rain. Students spread gravel across the surface, then dug trenches along the sides to help water move away from the track.

Their work was practical and physical as they improved the route up Maungatauhoro Hill. Once the mahi was complete, the group walked to the summit to take in the views before sharing a barbecue in the park.

Leani told the students she was amazed by the amount of work they had completed and that they had exceeded her expectations. Her response gave the group a clear sense of the value of their contribution.

The visit gave senior international students an opportunity to support a local environment while learning about the work involved in caring for public tracks. Their efforts will help protect the paths from damage and make them more resilient in wet weather.

What a great day! We had the chance to attend the How to Live on Earth movie premiere, and the movie was great! 🙌

Kia ora rawa atu to Tahi NZ | Biodiversity Regeneration and Nextfoundationnz for hosting the screening and bringing everyone together for such a special event.

The film explores our connection with nature and how people can work with nature, rather than against it, to help create a better future for our planet. 🌱🌏

We also got to ask people what they were most excited for and what they liked about the movie most. Here’s a little look at the day, from the entrance to the big screen! Thanks to everyone who made it such a memorable experience.
