We’ve got some tiny locals nesting on our Eastbourne coastline 🐦💙

Banded dotterels are endangered native birds that nest in Eastbourne from July through to February. Once their chicks hatch, they don’t necessarily stay within the marked nesting area – they can roam across the promenade area, from the promenade wall right down to the foreshore.

Sadly, two dotterels have previously been killed by dogs off lead in this area – one along the foreshore and another near the promenade wall.

Banded dotterels have the same endangered status as whio/blue duck and great spotted kiwi, so it’s important we give them plenty of space.

If you’re visiting with your pup, dogs must be kept on a lead at all times unless they’re in the designated dog exercise area 🐶 This will be enforced during the nesting season.
