🔧 Behind the Scenes at Sutton Tools
Lincoln Rotary members recently enjoyed a fascinating vocational visit to Sutton Tools in Rangiora, where we were given a behind-the-scenes look at a successful New Zealand manufacturing business.
Our group of 20 toured the design engineering, tooling, manufacturing, packaging and quality-control areas. We were impressed by the skill and commitment of the Sutton Tools team, along with the organisation of the operation and its strong focus on quality, efficiency and workplace safety.
It was particularly interesting to see the expertise and technology that go into producing the tools many of us would normally take for granted.
A big thank you to Sutton Tools and their team for generously giving us their time, sharing their knowledge and making us so welcome. Vocational visits are a great part of Rotary – giving us the opportunity to learn more about the people, skills and businesses contributing to our communities.

Rotary Working Together for Papanui High
A wonderful example of Rotary teamwork in action!
Rotarians from Papanui, Ōtautahi Passport and Lincoln Rotary Clubs are joining forces with Papanui High School to create a special Jubilee Rose Garden celebrating the school’s 90th anniversary.
Led by David Boustead of Ōtautahi Passport Rotary, with horticultural advice and plenty of hands-on help from Lincoln Rotarian Peter McNaughton, volunteers have been working alongside the school team to prepare the garden ready for planting.
The finishing touch will be 90 roses – one for every year of Papanui High School – planted collectively by members of the three Rotary clubs.
It’s a great example of what can happen when Rotary clubs work together: sharing expertise, lending a hand and creating something lasting for the community. 🌹

Good Friends Are Like Stars
What do running, Rotary and a Long White Lunch have in common? For our guest speaker, Bruce Cowan, they're all part of a life enriched by family and friendship!
Bruce shared stories from his impressive running career, business life, and many years in Rotary, but his celebration of family and friends really captured the spirit of his talk.
We particularly loved his Long White Lunch tradition, where friends bring their own table, chairs, white tablecloth and food to share, creating one wonderful gathering.
As Bruce reminded us, “Good friends are like stars. You don't always see them, but you know they're always there.”

A Week of Lasting Impact
What a wonderful week of Rotary in action, right here in our community!
Our Lincoln Rotary cooking team prepared a hearty home-cooked meal for families staying at Ronald McDonald House. Rotarians dressed up and turned out to support Cholmondeley Children’s Centre at the Little Gems fundraiser. And at Selwyn CultureFest, members helped keep the day running smoothly with car-parking duties and our Rotary information tent.
Three very different activities, but all with something important in common — Rotarians showing up, lending a hand and making a lasting impact in our community.
That’s Rotary at its best — service, fellowship and community.

Cooking Up Some Rotary Care ❤️
Our Lincoln Rotary cooking team spent the afternoon at Ronald McDonald House, preparing a hearty home-cooked meal for families staying there.
Chicken and all the trimmings were followed by carrot cake and a very popular ice-cream bar for the children! 🍨
A wonderful team effort from preparation through to clean-up — a simple but meaningful example of Rotary in action: good food, teamwork and caring for families when they need it most. Nepal Needs Our Help
The image says it all — this is what's left of a community in northern Nepal after a catastrophic glacier collapse and landslide triggered massive flash floods on 26 August. At least 160 people have been killed, with hundreds more missing, and thousands are displaced or cut off from clean water, shelter and basic services.
Rotary clubs in Nepal are on the ground responding right now, and they'll be needed for the long haul — this kind of damage takes years to rebuild from.
Lincoln Rotary is backing the Rotary NZ World Community Service appeal, supporting the Rotary Australia World Community Service response in Nepal. Every donation, big or small, helps provide shelter, clean water and the essentials families need to start rebuilding.
