A Record-Breaking Day at Our Repair Café!

What an incredible turnout for our Repair Café last Saturday. It was our most successful event yet, with a record-breaking 132 items brought in to be assessed.

A huge thank you to our 18 expert repairers and 11 support staff who kept the day running like clockwork. It was great to see so many families and friends working together to help our community.

Thanks go out to Selwyn District Council for providing such a great venue. The community feel at ReDiscover, Pines Resource Recovery Park makes it the perfect venue for our event. Our amazing volunteer organisations: Ecotech, Molten Media Trust, RAD Bikes, Selwyn Knife & Blades for your inspiring mahi.

We love hearing from you—did you get something fixed on Saturday? Let us know your feedback in the comments! 👇

Miniature Magic at our Basic Bonsai Workshop

This past March, we were delighted to host Tony Bywater from the Christchurch Bonsai Society for his annual Basic Bonsai Techniques workshop. Tony’s passion for this art form is infectious! He brought along a stunning collection of tiny trees, which immediately inspired everyone with what can be achieved with patience and dedication.

Our participants were hands-on, learning the steps required to "train" a tree. Tony guided them through the technical skills of branch trimming and wire techniques to achieve the desired shape. He also shared essential tips on caring for their new ‘baby’ bonsai to ensure they thrive. Participants pleased with their final effort are already looking forward to returning for Tony’s refresher workshop in a year!

We always love receiving positive feedback, after the workshop, a newcomer to Selwyn shared this kind feedback:
“Thank you for organising the Basic Bonsai Workshop, Ruth. I enjoyed it very much – it was skilfully presented and stimulating. As a newcomer to Selwyn, I appreciate the effort put into welcoming me into your community.”

This is one of the reasons why the Lincoln Community Garden exists - to bring people together, learn together, and build a vibrant community. Make sure you’re following our page to get notified of our upcoming garden events.
