Meet Telesha, who recently completed our Triple P Parenting Programme.

“I decided to join to gain more tools around parenting a young child,” she says. “Also to become more aware of my parenting style, gain more knowledge, and to reassure myself I am not the only solo parent who struggles.”

Before starting, things at home felt really heavy. “My son would become violent, show problematic behaviour, sibling rivalry, and anxiety in myself in public situations with my son.”

When she started the programme, things slowly began to shift.
“Quality time is a very big thing for us now. I found through the programme I lacked in that, and when I took this approach my children became a different child. Planned ignoring in certain situations has also helped and become routine, depending on the situation. After completing the programme I can now leave the house with my son with no anxiety if an outburst occurred. I have gained a lot more confidence within myself and my parenting abilities.”

One of the biggest lessons for her was simple, but powerful. “That quality time and just giving your child time, even if it’s only five minutes, can really change how you need to approach things.”
She noticed the difference most when the goals she set alongside her practitioner started working in real life. “When the goals and things my parenting lady and I made actually started changing behaviours and things in the home were getting back on the right track.”

Things at home have changed for the better. “My son is now happier, enjoys routine and the boundaries set. We both can now walk off instead of having a useless child-parent tiff. With routine and clear boundaries becomes a strong connection.”

She’s also seen big changes in behaviour. “He no longer hits, smacks, punches, or has major outbursts. These were an everyday occurrence prior to the programme. His relationship with his sister has improved, not 100% but siblings will be siblings.”

When asked what she would say to other parents considering a parenting programme, she didn’t hesitate. “You would be silly not to take up an offer for such an extraordinary programme that 100% has positive outcomes. With Triple P – Positive Parenting Program you will gain the knowledge and tools needed to take on almost all scenarios that could happen in real time as a parent.”

And in one phrase, she sums it up simply:
“Honestly the best parenting programme I have ever completed, and I would do it again in a heartbeat if I needed to.”

Thank you for sharing your story, Telesha.
