The Lions Club of Hanmer Springs is thrilled and pleased to announce a significant expansion of its team, with seven new members formally inducted during a special ceremony on Thursday, 15 January 2026, at the Gateway Tavern.
The induction ceremony was conducted by District 202E Governor, Bernie Walls.

We sincerely thank them for stepping up to volunteer their time and energy to help our community without expecting financial reward. Their skills and empathy will be instrumental in supporting our ongoing initiatives, which greatly benefit both Hanmer Springs and the wider Hurunui district.

Lions Club of Hanmer Springs would like to thank the following people for their help in pulling of a successful and wonderful Senior Citizens Xmas Lunch. Without you, the event wouldn't have been a success.
Cathy Berryman and Penny Ellis for organising the event
Gateway Tavern, Stacey and Zane and their team for hosting the lunch at your venue and for the amazing food
Neroli Gray for making the table centerpieces
Garth and Denise Smith for the helipad coasters and for the moreish Xmas chocolate truffles
Ian and Tina Steele for manning the wine and beer bar and serving food and clearing tables
Our guest speaker, Shelley McCully, who talked about the helipad project for Hanmer Springs
Father Christmas, we all know who he is
Boio for delivering meals to the people who were unable to make it to the lunch
Last, but not the least, our Hanmer Springs School kapa haka group, as always, the highlight of the event
Huge thank you goes to everyone who attended the lunch. There would not be a lunch without you AND thank you all for your donations for the Helipad. Total amount raised was $931. Awesome!
Lions Club of Hanmer Springs takes this opportunity to wish the people of Hanmer Springs community a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and special thanks goes to the Friends of Hanmer Lions for your help throughout the year.
