๐ŸŒŸ Ka pai to the dedicated kaiako at Kaikลura High School! ๐ŸŒŸ

What an inspiring Sunday spent running a refresher workshop for using their custom Aquaponics System as an cross functional educational tool. They are gearing up for Year 2 of their sustainable system. With a change in staff, the team is ramping up cross-department collaboration โ€“ blending science, tech, environmental studies, food science, and even community kai initiatives to enrich student learning across the board.

We dove into hands-on troubleshooting, water quality management, plant health tips, and strategies to weave in more whฤnau and hฤpori involvement. It's all about building those toolboxes to empower tamariki and rangatahi with real-world skills in kaitiakitanga, STEM, and food resilience.

๐Ÿ‘Š Huge shoutout to the teachers who gave up their weekend โ€“ your passion is fueling the next generation of innovators!

Check out these snaps from the day. This is sustainable education in action!

At NexGen Kai (registered charity CC61191), we're proud to support schools like Kaikoura High School in creating living labs that connect whenua, moana, and community. Want to help us expand to more kura? Donate securely at https://nexgenkai.nz or get in touch to volunteer!

In this 3-hour kickoff, we co-designed a custom system tailored to their space, exploring how fish, bacteria, and plants create a sustainable loop that uses 95% less water. It's hands-on learning that connects tamariki and rangatahi to real-world biology, chemistry, and environmental stewardship | kaitiakitanga, turning theory into thriving ecosystems.

This is just the start! With weekly follow-ups, we'll guide them through construction, water quality management, and harvesting chemical-free produce โ€“ empowering the next generation to build food resilience and green careers.

Thanks to supporters like the Rฤtฤ Foundation, we're making it happen, but we need your help to expand to more schools and communities. Donate today at https://nexgenkai.nz, volunteer your expertise, or share this post to grow the movement!

At NexGen Kai (registered charity CC61191), we're turning small seeds of change into thriving communities across Aotearoa! ๐ŸŒฑ

Imagine young people hands-on with sustainable food systems, learning STEM through real-world biology, chemistry, and engineering; connecting to traditional kai knowledge and Mฤori practices; growing fresh, organic produce in water-saving aquaponic setups that use 95% less water than traditional methods. Our programmes empower tamariki and rangatahi to build food resilience, spark curiosity about the environment, and explore green career pathways โ€“ all while fostering pride in our whenua and awa. ๐Ÿ’š

We've already seen the magic in action with successful pilot systems in schools, where students tend fish and plants in closed-loop harmony, harvest chemical-free kai, and turn classrooms into living labs for sustainability. This is our proof of concept โ€“ now we're ready to scale! With your help, we can roll out more fully funded aquaponics education programmes, community workshops, and neighbourhood gardens nationwide, creating hubs of learning, connection, and healthy living.

Thanks to generous grants and supporters (including recent backing from the Rฤtฤ Foundation), we're gaining momentum โ€“ but we need more hands and hearts to keep growing. Whether it's donating to fund the next installation, volunteering skills for training and support, or simply sharing our story, every contribution helps empower the next generation of innovators and leaders.

Join us in cultivating a sustainable future โ€“ one garden, one student, one community at a time. Donate securely today at https://nexgenkai.nz and be part of something truly transformative! ๐Ÿ’š

Wow, **92 followers overnight**! ๐Ÿ™Œ That's incredible momentum for our new page. Thank you to everyone who's liked, followed, and shared already. Your support means the world as we grow this kaupapa to bring hands-on aquaponics education to more tamariki and communities across Aotearoa. ๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŸ

Quick recap - We're a registered charity (CC61191) blending traditional Mฤori kai knowledge with sustainable aquaponics to teach real skills, grow fresh organic produce, and build food resilience โ€“ all in water-efficient systems that save up to 95% compared to traditional gardening.

We've got exciting progress! Thanks to a **$5,000 grant from the Rฤtฤ Foundation**, we're set to launch our education programme in a new Canterbury school โ€“ complete with system installation, teacher training, and curriculum resources.

But to make it happen fully (and expand to more schools), we need your help to close the gap. **Even a small donation makes a huge difference** โ€“ $5 could buy seeds or test kits, $20 helps with fittings, $50 supports part of the training materials. Every bit brings us closer to seeing kids harvest their own kai and spark lifelong curiosity about sustainability.

**How you can jump in right now:**
- Donate **any amount** (yes, even $5!) via our secure website: nexgenkai.nz/donate โ€“ Stripe gives an instant tax-deductible receipt.
- **Like, comment, and share** this post โ€“ tag a friend, teacher, or school in Canterbury (or anywhere!) who might want to get involved or apply for a system.

Your $5 today could help plant the seed for tomorrow's kai growers. What do you say โ€“ ready to grow with us? Drop a ๐ŸŒฑ in the comments if you're in!

Ngฤ mihi nui โ€“ let's keep the vibe going! ๐Ÿ’š

๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŸ Big News from NexGen Kai! ๐ŸŒฟ

We are stoked to announce that NexGen Kai has received a generous $5,000 grant from the Rฤtฤ Foundation to kickstart round 2 of our aquaponics education programme in a Canterbury school!

Rฤtฤ Foundation
As the South Island's largest community investor, Rฤtฤ Foundation empowers equitable and sustainable initiatives across Canterbury and beyond โ€“ and their support is a huge vote of confidence in our mission to blend traditional Mฤori kai knowledge with innovative, water-efficient food production.

This funding will help us install a state-of-the-art aquaponics system, provide hands-on training, and deliver curriculum-integrated education resources. Students will learn STEM skills, grow fresh organic kai, and build climate-resilient food systems โ€“ all while saving up to 95% water compared to traditional methods. It's about nurturing the next generation's connection to sustainability and community wellbeing.

With Rฤtฤ's $5,000 boost, we need just a few more $$ to make this a reality and expand to even more schools.

๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŸ Kia ora whฤnau โ€“ Welcome to NexGen Kai! ๐ŸŒฟ

We're a registered New Zealand charity (CC61191) on a mission to empower tamariki, rangatahi, and communities across Aotearoa with hands-on aquaponics education. By blending traditional kai knowledge with modern, water-saving sustainable food production, we're helping young people grow fresh, organic kai while learning real STEM skills, building food resilience, and connecting to our whenua and moana.
Imagine schools and communities with thriving aquaponic hubs have students tending fish and plants in a closed-loop system that uses 95% less water than traditional gardening, harvesting chemical-free veggies and kai, and sparking curiosity about sustainability and future green careers.

We've already piloted successful systems (shoutout to Kaikลura High School!), and thanks to generous support, we're rolling out fully funded aquaponics programs for more schools โ€“ free installation, training, and ongoing mentorship.

Your support helps us grow this movement nationwide โ€“ one garden, one school, one community at a time.
