We are open for business. Please sort the recycling before you come. Clean and dry. Soft plastics. batteries, fabrics (worn out, unsuitable for resale), small e waste (cables, tablets, phones, laptops - no 55 inch TV's!), plastic lids, metal lids.

Hamilton City Council is doing something it's never done before: funding community organisations directly with money collected through the landfill levy.

That money is going towards Zero Waste Kirikiriroa, a new partnership between Go Eco and Hamilton City Council bringing resource recovery hubs into community houses around the city. Pūtea that used to go towards dealing with rubbish is now going towards stopping that rubbish reaching landfill in the first place.

Launching at three community houses: Western Community Centre, Waimarie: Hamilton East Community House, and Pukete Neighbourhood House, with more to come. Each one will take the things kerbside collection can't - lids, batteries, soft plastics, textiles, and small e-waste.

Go Eco has worked alongside these community houses for many years now, through food rescue, climate action, and workshops on things like composting, tree pruning, community gardens, trapping and healthy homes.

Council's decision to back community organisations to deliver this work reflects something we have long believed at Go Eco: the people already trusted in a community are best placed to grow what that community needs.

Ngā mihi nui to Hamilton City Council for backing this kaupapa, and to the teams at Western Community Centre, Waimarie, and Pukete Community Centre for opening their doors to it.
