No parent should have to choose between feeding their child or keeping them warm.
But this winter those are the kind of choices some families who are doing it especially tough are facing. As the cost of living rises, more whānau are going without essentials like warm bedding, winter clothing, and nourishing meals.
That's where your kindness steps in.
Through Winter From The Heart, you can bring comfort and hope to struggling families this winter. Even a small gift can help a child stay warm and a family feel supported through the cold winter months.
If you can, please give today - at a time when many of us are feeling the strain, your kindness matters more than ever.

We're proud to celebrate the appointment of Stephen Parker as an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit (ONZM) in the 2026 King's Birthday Honours, recognising his outstanding service to governance and community.

Some leadership quietly shapes communities for decades. Steve's contribution to Visionwest began in 2004. Across 19 years of voluntary governance, he helped guide the organisation through significant growth, supporting the expansion of housing, healthcare, food support, employment, counselling and community services that now impact thousands of whānau each year.
As Visionwest Chief Executive Lisa Woolley ONZM reflects:

"Steve is exceptionally hard working, passionate, dedicated and community minded. He has added so much to the governance and strategic direction of Visionwest over the last two decades, always keeping our vision and mission at the centre of what we do."

What makes Steve's leadership remarkable is not just his governance expertise, but his commitment to service. He has consistently championed community-led solutions, demonstrated a deep commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and worked to ensure organisations are grounded in equity, partnership and long-term wellbeing for the communities they serve. Whether mentoring leaders, supporting community initiatives, or helping organisations build strong foundations for the future, he has led with humility, integrity and purpose.

His impact extends well beyond Visionwest, through leadership and governance roles across numerous community organisations throughout Aotearoa.

This honour recognises a lifetime of contribution, but also the quiet, consistent way Steve has served others for many years.

Congratulations Steve on this well-deserved recognition. Thank you for the leadership, wisdom and heart you have brought to Visionwest and the wider community.

Manaaki Kai turns 3 today! We're celebrating three years of operating our social supermarket for West Auckland whānau.
Manaaki Kai operates with the help of Foodstuffs North Island, and at the opening in 2023, their CEO Chris Quinn focused on his two favourite words to describe social supermarkets – “dignity" and "respect”. Shoppers choose their own groceries based on a points allocation, and are given the dignity of paying what they can. Whānau shopping at Manaaki Kai say, “The Visionwest team were so kind and non-judgemental when I came in, I felt like I was heard and had nothing to hide”.
Manaaki Kai also is funded by the generosity of donors and supporters in the community. If you're keen to help provide food for struggling families, we'll put a link in the comments below!

👏 A huge thank you to the Visionwest Ōhinga Tū team for an epic Youth Week 2026. Starting with Youth Week in the Village they hosted and supported a huge range of events and hui, ending in BLOCK PARTY at Trading Place, Henderson - announcing their presence as the (literal) new kids on the block, providing support and opportunities for youth in West Auckland.
There are so many groups to mention across the week from artists to entrepreneurs, businesses, libraries, – special thanks to Waitākere Ranges Local Board, Whau Local Board, Whau Youth Board, Henderson-Massey Local Board and Youth Council, Te Puna Manawa, EaseUp, Crescendo, West City Boxing, Ara Taiohi - Peak Body for Youth Development, Hapai Te Hauora - Maori Public Health.
Ōhinga Tū are ready and willing to connect with organisations, schools, businesses and anyone interested in creating opportunities for rangatahi. Get in touch directly on instagram (link in comments) or message Visionwest.
