🌱 Growing the next generation of environmental champions! 🌱

Twenty-five enthusiastic tamariki from Years 4–6 at St Peter Chanel School recently took part in a hands-on planting and education day with Loveday from the Ōtokia Creek Trust.

The students learned about native trees, seed growth, and the importance of restoring local waterways before getting stuck into practical activities including sowing seeds, identifying native plants, and re-potting seedlings destined for the Ōtokia Creek reforestation project.

One of the biggest highlights came when the children discovered the project has already planted 22,000 trees – and that the seeds they planted could help add another 200 in the future. 🌳

With plenty of curiosity, enthusiasm, and muddy hands, the tamariki embraced the opportunity to contribute to an important local conservation project and learn more about caring for the environment.

πŸ’š 14-20 June is National Volunteer Week & it's the perfect time to give a shout out to the incredible people who help make our Greater Green Island Community Network what it is.

Our volunteers play a vital role in so many ways. From helping at Market Day and The Get Together, to supporting events through our Youth Action Group, and delivering the Informer newsletter, their time and dedication help keep our community connected.

Every event supported, every newsletter delivered, and every hour volunteered makes a real difference. We are incredibly grateful for the generosity, enthusiasm, and community spirit of all our volunteers.

Thank you for everything you do – Greater Green Island is a stronger, more connected community because of you. πŸ’š
