Meet Don Putan, our Bike Hub coordinator.

Don has been part of the Bike Hub whānau since the hub first opened. Along the way he's helped out at a few of our other hubs too, including a stint at Bike Hub Onehunga.

A lifelong cyclist with over 25 years of riding behind him, Don says the best part of biking in Auckland is the cycleways. His recent favourite is the 20km route from town to Whenuapai, where you don't have to worry about cars. Don's daily commute from home in Balmoral to work at Grey Lynn takes just 25 minutes.

These days he's experimenting with a Merida, but his heart still belongs to his trusty old Vision.

And the best koha he's ever received? 50 cents from a homeless person he helped with their bike. It's a good reminder of what this mahi is all about. 🧡

Michael got in touch to say a huge thank you for the opportunity to trial the Yuba again, sharing that the experience gave his family a real taste of the cargo bike lifestyle and what these bikes are truly capable of as part of their day-to-day routine.

The CRL had its first weekday morning rush this week — and naturally, someone had to test whether biking could keep up! 🚲🚄

😄"I have to admit I did want to win this on behalf of the biking community so I got my race face on," says one determined rider, who kicked things off with an easy 13km ride to the start near Glen Eden — "the third best Glen in Auckland, and probably the best Eden."

Our Bike Hubs are part of Auckland Transport's wider network of bike hubs across Auckland, offering free tool access, maintenance advice, and second-hand bikes and parts — helping our communities learn the skills to service and repair their own rides, for free.

Swipe through for a few words to take with you next time you're at the hub ☺️

Wīra (wheels), mekameka (chain), pōtae mārō (helmet), hānara (handlebar) — and the word for the whole thing: paihikara, bicycle.

Across Tāmaki Makaurau, our 9 community Bike Hubs are open Thursday to Sunday (10am to 2pm) with free tools, friendly advice, and a hand fixing up whatever's been sitting in the shed all winter.

Since we started, more than 100,000 people have come through our hubs. And we'd love to see more of you soon! 👋
