Birkdale Beach Haven Community Project INC The Birkdale Beach Haven Community Project operates two Community Houses - Birkdale and Beach Haven.

All people in Birkdale Beach Haven feel connected, valued and included. The Birkdale Beach Haven Community Project was incorporated in 1975. At that time, the concept of providing a "community house" in which people can gather and connect as an urban community was very new. Birkdale Community House was the very first Community House in New Zealand. Today we can be proud of the vision and the intent of our founders. Since those early days we have grown to where we are now operating two Community Houses. We operate from two key sites, one on Birkdale Road and the other on Beach Haven Road. These are our core service areas but even more importantly right now we are engaging with government agencies, community partners and our communities as we extend our services and continue to meet the needs and preferences of our local communities. We recognise that our founding principles and purpose as defined in our constitution in 1975 still has powerful relevance to our work 50 years later. This tells us that those who founded the Project knew about building community, serving community and supporting community ownership.

What a great start to Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori. A delicious kawhe / coffee ordered in te reo Māori from Kiwi Coffee Karts, and an in-depth look at Pepeha & Mihi in our workshop with Matua Shannon!

Ngā mihi o Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori!

To celebrate Māori Language week Kiwi Coffee Karts are joining us outside the Birkdale Community House on Tuesday the 15th of September from 8.30-4pm. You can order your coffee in te reo Māori and support a good cause at the same time!

Either bring along canned food, some pasta or rice and swap it for your coffee (or tea) order of choice! All food donated supports our Community Eats Programme run at Beach Haven Community House.

No food to donate? No problem. Simply purchase your coffee as normal and $1 from every cup gets donated ☕😋

Calling artists with studios in Kaipātiki!

Registrations are open for Open Studios Kaipātiki 2026, on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 November.

Open your studio to the public across one weekend, meet new audiences and buyers, and be part of a celebration of creativity on the North Shore. Taking part is free, and every registered artist gets a listing in the printed brochure and map, a page on the event website, a place on the digital art trail, event signage and promotion through the event campaign.

Birkenhead, Northcote, Glenfield, Beach Haven, Birkdale, Bayview, Hillcrest and surrounding suburbs.
