There is a rolling train in going on 🚋

🌱 We are advancing well in all the branches, namely, to deepen knowledge of the expansion of tropical root-knot nematodes. We are generating , and already getting a glimpse of the kind of tools that we need to develop.

WP2️⃣ achievements:

Researchers from , , and , including partners from the Kmetijski inštitut Slovenije, have published a review on the distribution, identification, bio-ecology, and management of Meloidogyne luci 🪱

ℹ️ The review summarizes the nematode's spread across Europe, its broad host range, and the symptoms it causes in infected plants. It also highlights the need for combined morphological, biochemical, and molecular analyses to accurately distinguish M. luci from closely related Meloidogyne species 🔬

The authors evaluate integrated management strategies, including crop rotation, resistant cultivars, chemical control, and biological control, emphasizing the growing importance of environmentally friendly approaches for sustainable and organic farming 🌱

🥔All potato cyst mate with multiple males, study finds🔬

📑 A new study published in Ecology and Evolution has revealed that every female potato cyst nematode (Globodera pallida) mates with multiple males. This is the first time scientists have confirmed and measured this behaviour in this important crop pest.

🧬 By analysing the DNA of young nematodes, researchers from found that each female had offspring fathered by an average of seven different males.

🪱 The researchers expected that females in these adapted populations would mate with fewer males because the number of males decreases as the populations adapt. Surprisingly, this was not the case. Multiple mating remained common in every population studied.
