When it is picked up, it contracts, and the blood is sent back up the leg towards the heart. This way, a liter of blood is pumped through the body every 20 steps! 🐴

Is biodiversity in agriculture an inevitable conflict of interest or a promising opportunity for a more sustainable future?
Join us for The Land Between: Soil, Seeds & Species by Future for Nature Academy and WEP, where farmers, scientists, ornithologists, and indigenous voices sit in the same room to challenge that narrative, bringing perspectives from the soil beneath our feet to the birds disappearing above our heads. From agroecology and species conservation to indigenous land rights and policy, this is not a lecture. This is the conversation that's long overdue.
📅 27th May | 18:00 – 20:00
📍 C0222 Forum, Wageningen University
See you there. 🌾

Although it may look like a root, kelp uses a structure called a "holdfast" to attach itself firmly to solid structures like rocks. The holdfast can't absorb nutrients the same way roots do, so the kelp leaves (called fronds) do this job instead.
