The frog in each hoof acts like a pump to push blood back up the leg. When the hoof is down on the ground, it expands and fills with blood. When it is picked up, it contracts, and the blood is sent back up the leg towards the heart. This way, a liter of blood is pumped through the body every 20 steps! 🐴

Although it may look like a root, kelp uses a structure called a "holdfast" to attach itself firmly to solid structures like rocks. The holdfast can't absorb nutrients the same way roots do, so the kelp leaves (called fronds) do this job instead.
