World Menstrual Hygiene Day 2026 - Together for a Period Friendly World

Meet from Badrisa, Adamawa State.

Through the Sang Pour Sang Project, HARAF created safe spaces for women aged 35+ to speak openly about menstruation. With support from Agence Française de Développement and Fòs Feminista Rosemary gained accurate health information and the confidence to challenge stigma she once accepted as normal.

Today, she’s leading new conversations at home and in her community. Harmful beliefs are being questioned. Silence is being replaced with dignity. Rosemary’s story shows what happens when women have knowledge and support: mindsets shift, and menstrual health becomes a right, not a secret.

Bridging Faith and Health to End Menstrual Stigma

In Saminaka, the Sang Pour Sang Project, funded by Agence Française de Développement and Fòs Feminista, continues to demonstrate that faith and menstrual health education can work hand in hand to break menstrual stigma and restore dignity for women and girls.

HARAF created a safe and respectful space where women openly reflected on menstruation and menopause without fear or shame. Our dedicated menstrual health champions facilitated honest conversations, emphasizing that menstruation is a natural part of life — not something to hide.

At HARAF, we believe education remains one of the strongest tools for dignity, confidence, and lasting behavioural change. When understanding replaces fear, women are empowered to live healthier and more confident lives.

Together, we can continue building stronger bridges between culture, faith, and health for a more informed and inclusive society.

Proud to share the impact of HARAF’s just-concluded NHF Health Project in Dikwa, Borno State.

Under this project, HARAF was able to record at least 25 child deliveries weekly, ensuring safe and skilled birth attendance for mothers in the community.

In total, the project reached over 15,000 beneficiaries through an integrated approach that included child delivery services alongside Risk Communication Community Engagement (RCCE) and mobile healthcare services.

This combined effort helped expand access to maternal and child health care, strengthen community engagement, and bring essential services closer to those who need them most in Dikwa.

At HARAF, we remain committed to supporting girls, women, and youth to have access to resources and thrive.

Strengthening partnerships for sustainable menstrual health policy actions.

For the past three months, HARAF has actively contributed to advancing menstrual health advocacy in Adamawa State through consistent participation in the Technical Working Group (TWG) on Menstrual Health and Hygiene Management (MHHM) Policy.

The TWG, hosted by the Adamawa State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development in collaboration with Big Family 360 Foundation, SPS partners, Rise To Inspire Africa Initiative (RIA), Debbie Kauna Foundation, Every Girl Initiative, Today For Tomorrow Initiative, and other government ministries, departments, and agencies, continues to drive coordinated efforts toward inclusive menstrual health policies and dignity for women and girls.

With the continued support of AFD - Agence Française de Développement through Fòs Feminista, HARAF remains committed to scaling up advocacy, strengthening multi-sector alliances, and promoting sustainable policy actions that ensure menstrual health, dignity, and access for all.
