For many families, the cost of delivery and newborn care items can be a significant challenge, making the first days of a child's life more difficult than they should be. Every mother deserves the opportunity to welcome her baby with dignity, confidence, and the resources necessary for a healthy start.

Through the Thrive and Rise Project, HARAF, with generous funding from the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation is helping bridge this gap by distributing Mama Kits filled with essential maternal and newborn care supplies to pregnant women and new mothers. These kits support safe childbirth, promote healthy postnatal practices, and reduce the burden on vulnerable families during one of life's most important moments.

At HARAF, we believe that creating safe spaces for learning is essential to helping young people thrive. we are implementing Parental Adolescent Learning Sessions (PALS) to equip adolescents with the knowledge and skills they need to navigate this important stage of life.

By engaging both adolescents and their parents or caregivers, these sessions foster open communication, strengthen family support systems, and empower young people to make informed decisions that promote their health, well-being, and future success.

Together, we are raising a generation of informed, resilient, and empowered young people; one conversation at a time.

Project Spotlight: Sang Pour Sang (SPS) Project | Adamawa State

We are pleased to share that HARAF has just concluded the SPS Project funded by Agence Française de Développement and Fòs Feminista: Addressing Menstrual Discrimination through Advocacy, Education, Community and Stakeholder Engagement in Adamawa State. The project set out to end menstrual discrimination by challenging stigma and misinformation through advocacy, education, and community engagement.

The impact, in a story of community-led change:

Across Yolde Patte, Namtari, Badrissa, Vonoklang, and the IDP Camp, we trained 22 Community Champions to lead locally, and mobilized 52 stakeholders and religious leaders for norm change. Through intergenerational dialogue, 1,872 elderly women were engaged, while 693 culturally appropriate IEC materials were distributed to reinforce key messages.

In total, 2,140 lives were touched across the 5 intervention communities.

The result: stronger community ownership, reduced stigma, and a louder voice for menstrual dignity in Adamawa.

A passionate young mother and farmer, Hadiza is building a better future for her family through the Thrive and Rise Project. With HARAF’s support and funding from the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation , she is gaining the tools, training, and confidence to grow her farm, increase her income, and lead with resilience.

Her story reflects what’s possible when we put women and youth at the center of humanitarian action.

Coordinated by Joseph Jangfa, Jesse Bumba and the rest of our dedicated field team, HARAF reached 91 households across Shuwa, Duhu, and Gulak in Madagali LGA, Adamawa State.

These staff members worked as key humanitarian actors to distribute improved NFI kits to vulnerable and displaced families. Their commitment ensured each household received essential items to meet immediate needs, strengthen safety, and restore dignity at home.Grateful for a team that puts communities first.
