We are incredibly honoured to receive the Delta Environmental Champions Award from Dennis Osadebay University and the Centre for Culture and Environment Promotion.

This recognition means so much to us because it reflects the impact of the work we have been privileged to do alongside communities, partners, volunteers, and everyone who believes in a cleaner, healthier environment.

A heartfelt thank you to the organisers for this honour and for recognizing the importance of environmental action. We are truly grateful.

To every member of the Green Knowledge Foundation team, thank you for your passion, resilience, and unwavering commitment. Whether in the field, behind the scenes, or engaging with communities, your dedication continues to make a difference. This award belongs to every one of you.

As we celebrate this milestone, we are reminded that there is still much work to be done. This recognition encourages us to keep advocating for clean air, advancing zero waste solutions, reducing methane emissions, and building a healthier environment for present and future generations.

As the Clean Air Hub convenes global conversations at London Climate Action Week 2026, the UrbanBetter Abuja Cityzens Hub, hosted by Green Knowledge Foundation, ran two community-led air quality assessments, in Abuja and in Warri.

Using wearable sensors and the UrbanBetter Cityzens App, our teams mapped real air quality along everyday walking routes: to work, to school, to the market.

In Abuja, PM2.5 hit 61µg/m³ and PM10 hit 101µg/m³. In Warri, average levels reached 77µg/m³ (PM2.5) and 136µg/m³ (PM10), well above the WHO 24-hour guidelines of 15µg/m³ and 45µg/m³.

This is both a climate and health issue. The same emissions driving these readings: traffic, open burning, fossil fuels, also fuel climate change.

For the people walking these routes daily, the long-term cost is real: respiratory illness, cardiovascular disease, and shortened lives, hitting children, the elderly, and outdoor workers hardest.

This London Climate Action Week, Green Knowledge Foundation and the UrbanBetter Abuja Cityzens Hub call on governments, city leaders, planners, and development partners to invest in cleaner transport, urban greening, and active mobility, for the climate, and for the people breathing this air every day.

What may seem like a quick fix for waste lingers long after the flames are gone.

For decades, open burning has been treated as a solution to waste disposal. But it is a dangerous habit we must leave behind.

We need to understand the crisis it creates and embrace safer, sustainable alternatives.

Burning waste isn’t management, it is destruction.

That smoke doesn’t simply disappear. It enters our lungs, pollutes our air, fuels climate change, and threatens our future.

Say NO to open burning.
