Today, we join the global community in celebrating World Wildlife Day under the theme Medicinal and Aromatic Plants: Conserving Health, Heritage and Livelihoods.

We are reminded that protecting our wildlife means protecting our future. Our mangrove ecosystems are more than coastal forests — they are nurseries for food, medicines, sources of traditional knowledge, and lifelines for local communities.

This World Wildlife Day, we reaffirm our commitment to:
1. Conserving biodiversity
2. Protecting coastal and marine ecosystems.
3. Empowering communities through sustainable livelihoods Coastal and Marine Areas Development Initiative
4. Promoting environmental education and research through Institute of Mangrove Ecology and Environmental Technology

Together, we can ensure that our natural heritage continues to heal, nourish, and sustain generations to come.

Hands-on Learning with Us

Last week, we alongside the Institute of Mangrove Ecology and Environmental Technology and Coastal and Marine Areas Development Initiative had the pleasure of hosting 26 passionate corps members from the NEMA and Drug-Free/Quality Control NYSC CDS groups in Warri South LGA.

It was an inspiring day of knowledge sharing!
Mrs. Alero Okotie, one of our park guides, led a session on the vital role of our mangrove ecosystem in disaster risk reduction and climate action.

The corps members also got a practical look at appropriate and affordable technology in action with a live demonstration of our biogas stove, learning how waste management can create clean energy.

We are proud to empower these young leaders with the tools to promote environmental sustainability in their communities.

Thank you for the donation of table covers to support our admin work—every bit helps.

Let’s keep working together for a greener Niger Delta.

Discover a slice of history at Falcorp Mangrove Park.

Ever strolled through a cashew grove while listening to the whisper of mangroves? Now you can.

Our Cashew Story:
The cashew tree travelled from Brazil to Nigeria over 400 years ago and today, it is thriving in our park. We have woven these historic trees into our conservation efforts, creating a unique space where nature, history, and community meet.

Cashew (Anacardium occidentale) is not native to Nigeria but has become one of the country’s most important agricultural export crops.

Origin: The cashew tree is native to northeastern Brazil. It was introduced to other parts of the world by Portuguese explorers in the 16th century. Guess what?

It primarily was for soil conservation and afforestation purposes. Initially, it was planted in Portuguese colonies along the coastal areas, including parts of what is now Nigeria.

Hey! The Portuguese met with us in Warri Kingdom in Ijala Ikenren, where we have our park now. What a beautiful history.

For centuries, cashew was not commercially exploited. The trees grew semi-wild, and local populations primarily consumed the cashew apple (the fleshy part), while the nut was often discarded or used minimally.

The cashew apple, once neglected, is now used locally to make juices, jams, and alcoholic beverages.

We are proud to protect biodiversity while honouring Nigeria’s agricultural roots. Come explore, learn, and reconnect with nature!
