COURT OF APPEAL PROCEEDINGS IN THE CASE OF SHEIKH ABDULJABBAR NASIRU KABARA
Awareness for Human Rights and Charity Foundation wishes to formally inform the public that our representatives were present at the sitting of the Court of Appeal held on Thursday, 23rd April 2026, at the Audu Bako Secretariat, Kano, regarding the appeal filed by Sheikh Abduljabbar Nasiru Kabara.
During the proceedings, the Honourable Court, presided over by Justice Mohammed Lawal-Shuaibu alongside Justice Abubakar Mu’azu-Lamido and Justice Ahmad Ramat-Mohammed, carefully reviewed the appeals submitted by both the appellant and the Kano State Government.
Upon thorough examination, the Court observed that the appeals were not properly filed in accordance with established legal procedures. Consequently, the Court struck out all the appeals in their entirety on the grounds of procedural irregularities.
Furthermore, the Court strongly advised Sheikh Abduljabbar Nasiru Kabara to engage the services of a qualified legal practitioner, emphasizing the gravity and sensitivity of the case, and noting that proper legal representation would ensure due process and fair hearing.
It was also noted during the sitting that the appellant appeared without legal counsel, while the Kano State Government was duly represented by Barrister Bashir Sale and Barrister I.A. Garba.
In a significant directive, the Court recommended that the Honourable Chief Judge of Kano State should facilitate an appropriate legal framework that would enable the proper refiling of the appeal, ensuring that all procedural requirements are duly complied with.
The Court further emphasized the need for an expedited hearing once the appeal is correctly refiled, in the interest of justice and to avoid unnecessary delays in a matter of such public importance.
This development marks another critical phase in the ongoing legal proceedings involving Sheikh Abduljabbar, a case that has continued to attract widespread public attention both within and outside Kano State, particularly following the capital sentence delivered by a Shari’a Court in 2022.
Awareness for Human Rights and Charity Foundation reaffirms its commitment to monitoring the case closely, advocating for the protection of fundamental human rights, adherence to due process, and the timely administration of justice.
