Industrial growth should not come at the cost of people, communities, and the environment.

Across Nigeria, pollution, flooding, environmental degradation, and climate-related risks are becoming more visible in our everyday lives. From industrial communities to urban centers, many people are already facing the consequences.

That is why Peace Media, in collaboration with Green Nigeria Initiative - GNI, is bringing together climate advocates, environmental stakeholders, policy voices, and civil society organisations for a virtual stakeholders roundtable focused on practical solutions, stronger accountability, and collective action.

This conversation is not just about awareness. It is about coordination, policy, community impact, and the future we are building together.

This engagement is designed to foster evidence-based discussions, policy contributions, and cross-sector collaboration toward strengthening climate governance in Nigeria.

We are currently identifying stakeholders with:

Green Nigeria Initiative Launches “Project Earth Kano” with Major Cleanup at Kano Zoological Garden

On Saturday, July 5, 2025, the Green Nigeria Initiative, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Kano State, and the Centre for Gender Studies, Bayero University Kano, kick-started a landmark environmental campaign with a cleanup exercise at the Kano State Zoological Garden.

This initiative marked the official launch of Project Earth Kano, with the zoological garden selected as a strategic site due to its position as one of the three green lungs of the state.

The cleanup was supervised by top officials from the Ministry, including the Director of Environmental Sanitation, Salman Abdul Adamu, and the Deputy Director, Garba Ibrahim Riruwai. Also leading the efforts were the Executive Director of the Green Nigeria Initiative, Aishat Abdulganiyyi, the Strategic Director, Ismail Hafsat Zubairu, the Program Manager, Abdulkadir Abdulkadir, and the Founding Advisor, Wareez Olatunji Odekunle .

In a strong show of commitment to sustainability, GNI donated ten eco-friendly waste bins to the zoological garden. These bins, placed at key points around the facility, are designed to tackle the menace of indiscriminate waste disposal, especially nylons and plastic bottles.

The event saw an impressive turnout of 80 dedicated green forces (volunteers), with the majority drawn from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change.

A big round of applause goes to all the eco investors who made this impactful event possible. These include Peace Media , JCI BUK, the Kano State Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Kano State Zoological & Wildlife Management Agency - Kazowma, Mubylin Green Solutions , Centre for Renewable Energy and Action on Climate Change-CREACC, the Centre for Gender Studies at Bayero University Kano, and of course, the spirited Green Forces.

Together, we are building a cleaner, greener Kano—one action at a time.
